We, the undersigned citizens of Charleston County, SC, hereby petition the Charleston County School Board of Education to stop the currently proposed plan to relocate approximately 24 and up to 38 school buses to the James Island Elementary School campus at 1872 S. Grimball Road, Charleston, SC and to seek an alternative location for these buses as part of its solution to the impending relocation of the Fort Johnson Middle School School Bus Depot.

The volume of support has reached a level that necessitates an immediate review from the district office. I have sent a formal request to the school board to include our opposition on the agenda for the upcoming administrative meeting.

As a teacher from the school next to the proposed lot, I am very much against this project. With the health and safety of our students in mind, I do hope this will be reconsidered.

Why not use the Septima Clark grounds? The additional traffic would not be good for anyone.

I teach at this beautiful school. Please, please don't do this to our kids. Has anyone thought about when it floods.......Where will that runoff go into? Yes, our beautiful pond. Plans can be made to runoff elsewhere, but when it actually happens, Mother Nature is in control.

There has to be another option. The campus is a lovely green place for kids and doesn't need to be a fume filled bus station.

That road is dangerous enough and needs to be widened without more buses zooming around it in the mornings!

Absolutely opposed to the idea. We struggle as it is with one road in and out. The pollution exposure to our children should also be considered. Why don't you look at utilizing the vacant school next door.

This protest now carries over to the Meggett School site, across the field on the other end of Grimball. There will be better plans to make as CCSD engages the JI community to help keep buses local but not burdensome to any neighborhood.

James Islande does not need to move the bus Depot to Grimball Road. This is a less-centralized location and the 2 traffic lights that service this road are already overloaded (ft. Johnson and folly) or trigger too easily (the new light on folly road and grimball closee to folly beach). I and many other James Islanders use these intersections more than daily and can attest to their underperformance. Keep the Depot where it is please! This seemingly inocuous change is what adds up to bad development when seen in the larger framework of new apartment and condo complexes, new neighborhoods and other developments. We need to work to keep James island from going the way of Mt. Pleasant which is laughed at locally for terrible traffic, congestion and over-development; and for residents is not a convenient and easy place to get around. Thank you for your consideration.
