Please rethink this questionable decision! Having been in property management for 30+ years, I personally believe that this is not an acceptable solution to Blue Ridge's parking problem. It may be time to set down and negotiate a fair price for the "overpriced" vacant lot(s) between Roberts and West First Streets... it's never going to be worth 'less' or 'needed' more! In this dire situation, it's time for positive action, "bite the bullet", purchase the propert, and use it for PAID parking... an investment in the future of our wonderful and growing city of Blue Ridge! Much better, faster and less costly solution than a 'parking garage', that would take years to collect the finances, and construct! Let's consider all involved!

Why the rush! This has a huge impact on downtown area and makes as much sense as the meters. Lease the Temple Baptist land while you do a due diligence, charge the patrons, and come up with a better fix.

If BR starts writing parking tickets based on hours of parking it will leave a terrible impression on visitors, limit return visits, esclate costs and ultimately lower city revenue

I work in downtown & live off Aska Rd. This would greatly harm tourism & the enjoyment of our visitors. Additionally, where are all the staff that works in downtown supposed to park? What do we gain by doing this? How will this be monitored? Just throwing out a new rule doesn't solve the problem.

Absolutely ridiculous. It isn't possible for anyone to visit the downtown shops and have lunch in 2 or 3 hours.

I spent 3 hours just going to a few stores and walking from one to another. Didn't even eat anywhere.

The city / county needs to purchase the vacant lot downtown and make it parking. With all of the property tax increases and institution of the personal property tax, they should have the money

It is always about the "Money & Who has Control"... over it!!
Until the Business Owners unite, and establish their own "Downtown Beautification District", funded by their own self impossed Tax... can anything positive happen!! Isn't it clear...that The City Council is only interested in doing what's best for them...and not you!!
Isn't it time to take control of your own destiny BR Business owners?

It's a poorly thought out idea with no research behind it, little logic put into it, and even less input from the community it most greatly affects. So far the majority of the city council has made a mockery of the democratic process and cast a sad, backwards shadow on Blue Ridge. The people of this community - whether or not they live within the physical city limits - deserve at the very least to be heard on this issue before any vote is cast.
Regardless, if 3-hour parking limits are put into place, and if they're largely unenforceable as I've heard they will be, then this vote only serves as a symbolic gesture; the signs become a red X on every parking spot that shows visitors (especially train-goers) that they aren't welcome. I don't think that's the message we want to send, just as I don't think the best way to fix the city's parking space problem is to curtail the number of cars that would fill them. I think the city needs to look at other options. I think the council members have a responsibility to talk to those most greatly affected by the parking situation. And if the greater community wants parking limits, so be it. But ultimately, I think that this limit is a petty, ill-conceived attempt to keep people out of downtown Blue Ridge constructed by people with brazen disregard for the city's best interests and put to a vote much too early. If you're going to take on the downtown parking issue, do it smart and do it right by the people it matters to most.
