NLS Sixth Form Dress Code Changes

As a bystander I find these changes entirely oppressive. Let these kids express themselves in their Gosha Rubchinskiy.

Why were we not told this before looking at 6th form options... (I literally just bought new clothes)

NlS dress is unsmart and messy

I have already emailed school about this. I am shocked that the school would impose this without consultation when it has a huge impact of cost and student comfort. Smart office wear is totally inappropriate for my daughters choice of A levels of art and photography - no one paints in suit trousers and a blouse. Even for most modern offices this is old fashioned - and most students will not be working in environments where clothing is regulated like this. Colleges and universities allow individual choice of clothing appropriate to study. Megan is now seriously considering going to sixth form elsewhere.

The change in uniform policy should have been highlighted when the current Year 11 were applying for Sixth Form. Most workplaces take a relaxed view on suitable attire and I see no reason why North Leamington school shouldn't either. Choice of clothing is a privilege the students have earned. I am very disappointed in the school ' s high - handed and dictatorial manner.

Don't change the code it's not fair they've served their time in school uniforms

Mr Morey had almost zero choice in the matter, there was a governors meeting with Mrs Mitchell and Mr Morey; in which several students also attended at their own request in order to have their say. This meeting was called as Mrs Mitchell had enough with individuals showing naval/cleavage or wearing inappropriate length skirts or leggings. Although it should not be distracting, this bending of the initial rules is what has led to the dress code changing. We were all warned enough times with our previously fair and lenient dress code, that it would change if people kept testing the boundaries. Business attire is not what Mr Morey is allowing to be put in place as he has previously fought for us to stay as smart casual as possible, but due to recent circumstances he's no longer had a leg to stand on as the rule were no longer being followed. He has specifically not put a uniform in place; as skirts, dresses (at an appropriate length) and appropriate (non logo) t-shirts/blouses, trousers and cardigans are allowed. As for formal coats, most girls have a formal classes coat as they are currently fashionable (duster coats, pea coats, etc). Although they are making changes I'm sure they will not be followed too strictly in accordance to certain areas, for example shoes wise, if they look smart then you will certainly not be ridiculed for them. Mr Morey was specifically the one who didn't want us to have a uniform in the first place. The parent governors are the ones who have asked for this to be put in place, not Mr Morey. And to any year 11's looking to go to our sixthform because of the initial dress code, then grow up or you will get the biggest shock of your lives doing A levels. It's your education that's important not what you're wearing to go and gain that education, school is not a fashion show.

I feel as if it's a stupid choice to make students wear smart dress, it's a known fact children in own clothing feel more comfortable within themselves and concentrate more, 95% of schools in America wearing own clothing, the school students wear uniform don't make sixth form students aswell, a lot of children will stop there futures for this exact reason, people will pick a completely different course irelevant to there future as college instead of sixth form because of uniform policies, I hope this petition goes through!

Students who are going to university next September will not benefit from this either, at university students are treated as adults and can wear what they like, once these clothes have been brought and worn for 7-8 months, they will sit in a wardrobe not to be seen again until after graduation when going out to get a proper job. And even then, the students may have outgrown the clothing! Students with poorer families are expected to cash out for this when the clothing will not be worn for a long amount of time.

No need for a dress code

Absolutely ridiculous. This school think image will make them better than what they actually are. Perhaps if they concentrated more on their pupils education instead of look then peoples opinions of NLS might just change!!!!
