I wholeheartedly agree with the points put forth in this petition. I am the custodial parents and as a single mother trying hard to support my children I receive little help other than what is court ordered from their father despite the fact that he makes way more than I do. He is in arrears and has been for the past year yet nothing is done to collect that from him. Also it is incredibly difficult to speak to a case worker. I would very much like to see changes in the system.

Jail and suspension of licenses is not the answer. The non-custodial parent hides and breaks family ties with their children because they don't want to pay their required support. Putting the non-custodial parent in jail or revoking their license is not the answer. I fully support this petition.

It's not taken into account when a child takes medication and they are in the one parent's insurance, and the co-pays are high. Usually the other parent pays for all co-pays and sometimes is more than the child support.

I understand. It is difficult from both sides. Many people will look at your comment and respect your son for making his payments...and thank you for being such a incredible grandmother. The child support system DOES effect more then the children and the parents...it effects grandparents and extended family. How would you like to see the system change? If you were in front of a Senator today....what would you be asking for?

I have a son who pays child supports and does pay every week the women he pays to keeps demanding more money regardless of how much he makes and hunterdon county sides with her every time and tells him to find 3 jobs if he needs to he has full time custody of his one son and can't make ends meets so I'm back to work full time helping my son with his bills when does this end and now she wants him to pay for all his college bills in the fall mind you its a 4 year college out of state she doest work and is married. He makes 12.50 ands pays 150 a week and the child works part time

I have a child support order that has been accruing for 8 years, without 1$ being paid towards it. The total is over 20,000.00$ now. And there has not been one bit of enforcement in all that time. I can't even get in front of a judge because the non-custodial person (I won't even call him a father) never shows up for court. There are so many problems with child support/family court it is not even funny. Something needs to change!!!

I HAVE A CHILD SUPPORT ORDER THAT HAS BEEN IN EFFECT FOR 18 YEARS FOR MY DAUGHTER, HER FATHER OWES OVER $30,000 IN SUPPORT, I HAVE GIVEN THE COURTS HIS ADDRESS IN CALIFORNIA WHERE HE LIVES, HIS SS#, HIS WORK ADDRESS, HIS WEBSITE AND MORE INFORMATION AND THEY HAVE YET TO TRACK HIM DOWN AND MAKE HIM PAY OR EVEN ISSUE AN ARREST WARRANT FOR HIM. NOT ONLY THAT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED NOT ONE OF HIS TAX MONEY THAT IS SUPPOSE TO BE GARNISHED AND SENT TO CHILD SUPPORT!! WHEN I TRY TO CALL THE SUPPORT LINE I CAN NEVER, EVER GET A LIVE PERSON ON THE PHONE! THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT ALL! IT IS NOT FAIR AT ALL!!

I semi-agree. I believe that they truly want to help and may be very adequate in their job positions. The policies need to change...but, with 40,000 child support cases...it must be a bit overwhelming. They are stuck between parents and the system....the probation workers are set up to fail in alot of cases.

Thank you James. Thank you for your concern regarding your girlfriend's children. You are the silent victims of child support. The spouses and partners of those that are going through the child support system must sit by and watch the frustrations of both parents. Thank you for supporting your single mom girlfriend.

Sandra, I would check to see if your child's dad has changed employment and did not contact child support. This may be a reason that there has been a change and different amount. He may be sending it in himself vs. wage garnishment. I am sorry to hear of your friend that is a dad and can only see his daughter once a week. Custodial parents do have rights, but it does not sound like it is working in the case. If there is a court order, it needs to be addressed. YES....the system needs to change!

Thank you! nicely said. Yes, we see that wage garnishment does not work when a person is self employed or "works under the table"....it is actually these two situations in which cause the most issues...and higher arears are seen. Any ideas on how we can make the system better?

"Wage garnishment" doesn't work when the person owing money is self-employed. But the other enforcement tactics (esp the threat of a bench warrant) have been effective! Never had to see that enforced, luckily. Truly don't want to jeopardize my child's relationship with a parent over money.
