Homeless population in Pittsburg, Kansas, has skyrocketed. Without a proper shelter, these people have limited options to help themselves.This is a very a dangerous situation. Intense heat and cold can cause health issues or even death. It is unacceptable to leave our community in this state. Homeless people are at greater risk of sexual assault, Musculature disorders causing chronic pain, Infectious diseases, and various other risks. This not only affects the Homeless but the morale and health of the community as a whole. Creating a safe place for the Homeless to work eat and sleep can greatly reduce these risks. As of now Walmart, Public Libraries, School benches, and various other business provide shelter, unfortunately not without risk of being assaulted or putting others at risk.

A homeless shelter is definitely needed and not one for just women and children. Homeless men need a place to go too. We recently met a homeless vet that was sleeping in some woods and that should not be happening!
Vets who have been in battle often come home with scars that are not physical. Those without support have difficulty re-entering society. In an area where there's not a VA or family support, where do they go. Once on the street they have no address enabling them to get any correspondence or assistance. They have no facility to shower and the downward cycle begins. When an area can spend money on extras and not take care of those who most, something is wrong.
Many vets come home unable to re-enter society because of their experience in battle. Those who don't have a support system or live in an area where they can get treatment at a VA end up on the streets. They have no address so no help they might be entitled to can reach them. I cannot believe a community cannot take care of those who need help the most.
The homeless need help. It’s that simple.
I have also thought it a mistake to close the last homeless shelter. I believe there is enough money in this area to support a homeless shelter if people would open their wallets and their minds.
Lets stop this before it gets worse. A shelter is needed.

I have been wanting to try and get a new shelter going for the homeless here I have experienced homelessness myself and it was a struggle and effected my mental health I am willing to assist in any capacity I can God bless feel free to contact me
