Dress code is necessary because some clothing indeed is not appropriate. But if personal choice of clothing is sight-respectful to each individual, if their choice of clothing is respectful to their body, arm length or mid thigh length should not be in place. If a butt cheek isn't hanging out or a breast isn't on the verge of peekaboo or basically nothing is a distraction, the no shoulders/mid-thigh/arm length rules are unnecessary in my personal opinion

Yes, maybe there should be certain boundaries for dress code so people aren't wearing skanky or inappropriate clothes to school. But going so far as to disrupt the learning environment, do school-wide sweeps, and send kids home for what they're wearing (especially for something like Nike shorts), is ridiculous. There is too much focus on this dumb policy, and there should be more focus on making sure students are achieving at their highest levels. Achieving academic success most often does not AT ALL coincide with what students are wearing on their bodies. How well someone succeeds is more about how they are being treated as individuals and as people, and how well they are being taught in the classroom. Are we really making this a bigger deal than learning, which is what school is really about? Honestly... What will it be RRHS? Academic success or fashion choices?

I don't drive to school everyday to have my time waisted about dresscode ALL IT IS A FUCKING PAIR OF SHORTS SO SHUT THE FUCK UP AND TEACH US TRASH WE DONT CARE ABOUT BECAUSE THIS IS IRRATIONAL ITS A GOD DAMN PIECE OF CLOTHING YOU FUCKING FREAK ASS OLD BITCHES
Exactly as I said on facebook, I can't believe classes were stopped for a "dress code sweep" over Nike shorts, especially with how hot it's been. I understand modesty is a good value to teach our youth, but it's being completely overshadowed by all of the issues brought up by handling things in this manner. RRHS seems to have a prison warden, not a principle. Can't say I didn't see this coming when Dr. Warrick left with the class of '11. Very thankful to have graduated before this new regime began. #DragonsFlyTogether #DontCageTheDragons

I graduated from RRHS in 2012, and in the 4 years I attended this high school I had been dress-coded by 2 people MAYBE 4 times, all for the most idiotic reasons. My sleeves were 3 fingers in width and not the mandatory 4 and of course Nike shorts. Ms. Nichols made me call my dad to bring me pants during my LAST period of the day and wasn't gonna let me out of her office until he did. My dad who works 60 hour weeks had to leave his job in Buda to drive to Pflugerville to pick me up some pants take them to RRHS and then drive back to Buda, she didn't care that my mom was in China at the time her reasoning was "It's a distraction to the learning environment". Um i'm sorry are my unshaven, unmuscular legs making people stupid? What was even crazier was that I had those pants on for all of maybe 20 minutes til the end of the school day where I would have to put those shorts BACK on for track practice. But what i'll NEVER forget is how she was trying to dress code people AT THE FOOTBALL GAMES! She would walk around and point at people, call them over and tell them that their clothes weren't in line with the schools guidelines and that if she saw them wearing that in school they'd be sent home or given detention! I'm all for this petition but if someone wants to start one for removing her as principal i'd sign that one too.

I agree in that a dress code should be in place to prevent distracting or offensive clothes from being out there. Tank tops, athletic shorts, and other similar wear themselves are neither unless there is an offensive logo. In addition, the method behind the sweep was conducted in a poor and insensitive fashion, and could have been done without disrupting classrooms so much.
