The whole charade caused by this is what is distracting to the learning, not Nike shorts or spaghetti straps.

I do not wear wear "nike shorts" but i find such a strict dress code to be exclusively targeted towards women and basically sexualizes teen girls. It is hot out, let me wear what is comfortable, "tights" are comfy and help when i have arthritics flares, my breasts are massive so all shirts (spare a turtle neck) will give some cleavage. Perhaps we should teach our students to respect people whether they wear something "provocative" or not . Such mentality instill and promote a patriarchal culture

If we never changed dress code, women showing their ankles would also be offensive.

the stance all RRISD schools are taking on the code this year is ABSURD!!! keep it simple, people. No Mid Drift showing, no spaghetti straps without a tank under or sweater over and no daisy dukes. Let's be reasonable and focus on education!!!

I completely agree with everything said in this letter. When I attended RRHS it was a struggle every year to find shorts long enough to be deemed "appropriate length". I think it's ridiculous that they've started doing dress code sweeps. Pulling students out of class and disrupting their learning for clothing is ludicrous. When I went to school here, boys were allowed to wear tank tops and girls weren't. Dress codes are extremely sexist and unfair. Change needs to happen.

In 1966, the Supreme Court ruled in the Tinker v. Des Moines Independent School District that the school could not ban the wearing of black arm bands to protest the Vietnam war. The court stated that students do not shed their constitutional right to freedom of speech when they reach the school gate.

I went to RRHS and we weren't allowed to wear shorts at all, but I would have loved to (even longer ones) because it gets hot in Texas. Good luck!

let these girls be comfortable and continue their educators without being penalized for how the opposite sex may view as modest or immodest.

What ever happened to respect, self dicipline? Calm down and show respect to the principal and the rules which have NOT changed since forever ago. Better yet, how about petition for something academic related. It's a damn school not a modeling campaign or worldwide athletic competition.
Nobody's dying of heat inside of a freezing air conditioned building all day.
Absolutely Pointless, and lame petition.
This is why there are FEW people who make it far in this world because of non-important low priority thinking minds.

This is a well written petition and I fully respect the person who wrote it. This dress code protocol has objectified women. Shoulders and thighs are not a distraction to men. There is a difference between wearing short clothing for comfort (because it is hot in Texas), and wearing it for sex appeal. We should be teaching young men to respect women and be mature, not telling women to cover up their shoulders so that they do not cause disruption in the learning environment. This is uncalled for and sending the wrong message. This rule should be amended immediately and an apology should be given for the public humiliation of everyone that had disciplinary action taken against them because of this "sweep".

It is absolutely ludicrous to do a dress code sweep during classroom instruction! Come on RR admin get it together! Put the FOCUS on preparing students for the real world with the best education! Let them wear Nike shorts to be comfortable while learning in the classroom.

It really is everyday that someone is sent home to change clothes because they are wearing shorts. Ms. Nichols is so ridiculous and the biggest hypocrite. The administration is all about remaining on campus throughout the entire day, but makes us leave school to change clothes. There is nothing more distracting than having to be stopped and told to go home and change clothes. The fact that some girls are not allowed to go to the classes their parents pay taxes for, because their attire is "inappropriate" is ridiculous. There are more important things to worry about than attire. How dare they try to remove us from our classes because of clothes no one gives a f uck about. They're just shorts and they're just legs, so stop looking at them Ms. Nichols, hag.
