During the 2013 election, Elicker hauled around a dogeared copy of the current fiscal budget. Harp was asked several times what she thought of the budget. Her response was always the same," I haven't had a chance to look at it." With the financial mess the City is in, it's pretty clear she has never looked at a copy of the City Budget.

while they say they didn't raise taxes last year, they did get a substantial increase in income due to property revaluations and did not lower the mill rate to adjust for increased income.

The Mayor and each department head are required to work within the confines of their budgets and to be fiscally responsible, they need to start to do a better job! We do not have an unlimited fund for them to continue to draw funds irresponsibly for unnecessary expenses. The budget needs to be trimmed to reflect what the city can actually afford and people need to be held accountable to stay within those limits.

It is absolutely horrendous to know that we have a mayor and aldermen who voted in favor of raising taxes to this level, and thinking it is acceptable to the residents they supposedly represent. How can we continue to live here without putting undue hardships on ourselves. The executives who run the City of New Haven, must be held accountable to budgets, like we all have to do. Many of us only get a nominal, or no pay increase, and have to learn adjust to living within our means. The Mayor needs to do the same, and our aldermen need to listen better, and hold the Mayor accountable. This type of management style; along with thinking that the residents will always be the ones to bail out the City is ridiculous.. We are tired of carrying the burden.

While I do NOT live in New Haven, putting the burden of pay raises on the back of taxpayers, BEFORE doing a budget "zero based budget" is appalling. New Haven WILL become Hartford. Businesses & citizens will leave, just as many are leaving CT for lower cost of living states. I am 75, CT native & REMEMBER NO personal income tax. ZERO BASED BUDGETING, USE IT. CUT STAFF.

Mayor Harp and our aldermen are a disgrace! The average city resident cannot afford an 11% tax increase and then the Mayor has the nerve to give substantial pay raises out on top of it!!! And when one of her workers on paid leave gets a pay raise too, something just doesn't add up!

I find it odd that the alder people just gave carte blanche to the budget. NO examination of what could be adjusted in the budget. The residents of this city cannot afford to pay the increase so why don't they find other ways of balancing the budget
