It's my belief the City needs to reduce its payroll to balance the budget, not increase taxes.

It’s outrageous to have an 11% tax hike and then give raises, big raises. Not to mention the raise the mayor received in the beginning of the year.

It is an insult to the people of this city to raise taxes 11 % and then grant nearly a quarter of a million dollars in raises to city hall staffers when schools are being closed and some of our lowest paid employees haven't had a decent raise in years! One CT town recently held a referendum to reject their city's tax increase. Americans always get the government they deserve when they keep silent, don't vote or both!

There are a lot of luxury apartments being built in the city instead of condos. Why is that? The burden has been placed on the homeowners to pay their taxes. Where is the money going for the three schools that will be closing the end of this month?

I think we already pay our fair share in New Haven, I can understand a increase but 11% is a little unfair, they are going to chase people out of the city, to bad because I love where I ljve.

At this point, almost half of my monthly mortgage payments go straight to escrow for taxes.
11% tax increase is unreasonable and should be repealed immediately.

11% is just not reasonable or fair minded. You need to look at other revenue sources and also see what efficiencies you can get on the cost side

First, the reval drawing a higher tax payment; second, the China trip on our dime; third, hanging on by our social security income fingernails with the 11% increase. What are we to do now - choose between medicine and food?

When the City gets serious about putting our imbalanced relationship with Yale on more equal footing, I'll stop making waves about a tax bill that has quadrupled over the past 20 years. That is s 400% increase on a base that was already too high. In what universe is that justifiable? Certainly not in one in which Yale pays nothing. Only the pitiful amount they "gift" the City, expecting kudos for their "generosity".

We bought a house in New Haven in the East Rock area in 2012 because we loved living in the City. I was born and raised here and wanted to bring up my children here. In 6 years our taxes have gone up almost 100%. This is unacceptable!!! Where do we go from here??? After ever increase you think to yourself this is it. Taxes can't possibly go up anymore and here we are AGAIN!!!

Once again, current taxpayers have to shoulder the weight of unpaid taxes from local corporations. Even with this increase we're already in debt for next year, and we still have ridiculous costs like Tweed airport, which loses more tax money each day of operation.

The pay raises will add cost in the future since the recipients will get them until they leave their job with New Haven. Eventually, higher pensions need to be paid too.
