Saying we can't wear headbands is so stupid! Headbands and bandanas are not the same! We should be able to wear headbands.

As a mom, I encourage my daughters to wear comfortable clothing to school everyday, including leggings. I will not be bringing a change of clothing to them in the middle of the day or picking them up early. As a teacher, I also try to get away with wearing comfortable clothing (including leggings) as often as I can. Leggings make me happy! I think we are capable of dressing ourselves appropriately without all the rules.

If teachers are going to send kids out for breaking dress code, they are going to send half the class out every day.

I believe that girls should be able to wear what they what to wear and feel comfortable instead of dressing for the men to focus. Schools need to teach male students to pay attention to school work and not on the female body.

To the person who said that this new dress code is to have a good first impression on visitors: no one cares what people wear. If you have leggings on because they are comfortable, go for it. If you have jeans on with a rip in them on your mid thigh for fashion, who cares? It's not affecting any of the administration in any way and it is not going to make any visitor think less of our school. Nike shorts for example are a comfort choice of shorts that are baggy and easy to wear in warmer weather. No one is distracting anyone in any way. We walk around for maybe 30 minutes total out of our full 7 hours that we are at school TRYING TO GET AN EDUCATION. Years ago women couldn't get an education and we are now heading in that direction again because school administrators would rather send girls to ISS because of their "distracting" clothing , than let them sit in class comfortably learning things they may need in life. Please consider how harsh these dress codes are and how many girls have already gone shopping for clothes that fit our old dress code that caused absolutely no problems at all. Taking away jeans leggings yoga pants and nike shorts is like taking away basketball shorts or maybe even khakis for boys. Be reasonable and take into consideration that with these new rules, you may have significantly less people attending your school.

This is just pointless. I graduated last year and not once, out of the 4 years I went there, did any of my male classmates have a problem with me wearing leggings. Sophomore year I was dress coded for nike shorts, but sorry it's hot outside. What was I supposed to do cover up fully and pass out from a heat stroke. Last year I was dress coded by my teacher over my tank top because it showed a majority of my shoulders. I went the rest of the day without a sweater and not once did a male student tell me it was distracting or that they couldnt take a test because I was showing to much skin. Also not once did any of my other 5 teachers tell me to put my sweater back on. Im really grad I graduated when I did, but I support these girls at Northern. If they wanna wear leggings let them wear leggings. Girls are not sexual objects and need to stop being treated like one.

I believe that the writer of this petition fails to realize that the likely purpose of the new dress code is to set the school apart, not to prevent males from being distracted by females. By taking a look at the first paragraph, it reads that "When visitors enter our building, we want them to notice a distinct difference and know they are in Northern Guilford High School. It is important people think well of Northern High, and first impressions count. We want the Nighthawks to set the standard for other schools to emulate." Though the dress code itself is definitely directed towards women, it is not for the reason that many think.

The real world doesn't have a dress code and you can't keep males safe from that by enforcing ridiculous dress codes in highschool

This whole dress code is absurd and filled with ridiculous requirements directed towards women. The rule pertaining to leggings, yoga pants, and jeggings (etc) is so obviously a travesty that it speaks for itself. But it also completely disregards the fact that all people are different sizes and body types. A looser fitting shirt on one girl may be considered tight on another because of how that girl's body is made. A skirt or dress that reaches requirement on a shorter girl may be considered too short for someone who has longer legs. Not only is this dress code more directly targeted towards females, but it is also entirely ignoring the fact that girls may have a harder time following it because their sizes and body types are all different. Women should not be taught to keep their individuality concealed and comfort disregarded just because a male classmate can't control himself. Rather, men should be taught not to view women's bodies as sexual objects, especially considering that a thigh or shoulder is not a sexual body part in the first place. Also, if you lose all control over yourself because you saw a girl's thigh then you have bigger problems to deal with than determining what women should do with their OWN bodies. Have a nice day.
