I would rather see 5th grade stay at the elementary schools, 6-8 at Reed, and keep the high school 9-12.

8th grade students belong in a middle school, not a high school environment!

As an educator of young children, having friends /family in the Newtown school system, I find it bothersome that these young children have to leave the comfort of their school and have to be placed in a high school where the mental mindset and physical appearance of these students will be very impressionable to them, accommodations in another form as combining with the towns other local schools would be more appropriate.

Based on the analysis provided to date, it is unclear that a school closing will achieve any significant financial benefit for the town and at the same time will result in a significant degradation of the students' educational & social emotional experience.

My 8th grade daughter couldn't even take the bus last year due to older high school boys using foul language and talking about sexual conquests. She was 13. Too young to be around 17 and 18 year old boys. I had to drive her for the rest of the year.
The BOE is rushing this terrible decision.

Can the town consider k-5, 6-8, & 9-12? There are other towns in the state that follow similar grade configurations.

Middle school is difficult enough. No 8th grader should have to go to high school. Way too much pressure.

I no longer live in Newtown...we moved to Vermont in 2002 because of the problems we had durring our time in the newtown school systems..looking back at my time in newtown middle school, the thought of 8th graders being housed at the high school, truly makes me cringe.... why would this ever have been thought of let alone even considered?? This is seriously risking the well being and future of so many young lives, and for what reason?? To save a couple dollars???

My daughter will be an 8th grader that year and I am strongly against moving 8th graders to the HS. Its a terrible idea on multiple levels. 8th graders are not developmentally ready or emotionally equipped to be grouped with high schoolers. The shared HS/NMS bus route - which my 8th grade son is on now - is bad enough. The logistics and (potential) temporary cost savings make no sense considering we'll be looking at opening another school in 10 years. If a school *has* to close, please reconsider going back to K-5, 6-8, 9-12.

I just don't see the benefit to splitting 7th and 8th graders because of many factors: socialization, activities, sports, etc. My understanding is the cost savings is minimal which means if there are hidden costs that arise they will be erased. I guess I can see to do this if the savings for each taxpayer was significant but is not. Doesn't make much sense to do this.
