I support keeping the Middle School open as it's what's best for kids. Additionally, keeping this school open will resolve some of major issues surrounding projected student increases over the next 10 years.

My youngest will be in the first class of 8th graders if this goes into effect, and I feel that if K-5 / 6-8 / 9-12 is not feasible, then I would prefer to just keep NMS open.

I do not feel comfortable sending either my son or daughter to high school in 8th grade. This is an unsafe situation inviting trouble. I will seriously consider sending my children to private school if this passes. What a shame when we are taxpayers and very pleased with the school system so far.

I feel strongly about kids being able to have a true middle school experience. High School while great, brings on a unique challenges that I believe 8th graders are not ready for. Thx Phil

I believe that we will eventually need the space at the middle school. I like having the school located in the center of town in addition to having grades 7&8 together during such an important stage of their lives. I don't believe the high school is a good fit for 8th graders. I'm willing to pay slightly higher taxes to keep the school open. My youngest child will be out by the time this should this take effect but I believe keeping the middle school open would best serve future students in Newtown.

8th grade should not move to high school. Other configurations are possible that would not put our younger students at risk.

Splitting the middle school years directly in half sets middle level education back over 30 years. Middle level education recognizes (by research and practice) the unique developmental time when a person transitions from childhood to adulthood; Much like the caterpillar morphing into a butterfly in the undisturbed cocoon! No other time of life is more significant with the exception of early childhood development from birth to the primary grades. Closing NMS would also harm the community fiscally as people with kids moving to the area would opt for surrounding communities that still have a middle school. This is not a good option for the community with respect to the best interest of kids or the economic future!

My child is developmental delayed. This would be traumatic and cause severe anxiety for him and my family. Please do not go through with this plan.

Agreed. Keep 8th grade out of the high school.

I personally do not know anyone who spent 8th grade in high school. The transition to Reed for my son had been difficult enough. I can't imagine jumping from 7th into high school.

The develop mental level of a 17/18yr old and that of a 12/13 year old are extremely different. To house those two age groups in the same school is just asking for trouble.

PLEASE do not put 8th grade into the high school.

I believe that the children in town would be better served by closing an elementary school and redistributing the children the schools that remain open. I think placing 8th graders within the high school environment is not wise developmentally.
