8th graders should not be with high schoolers. Please reconsider K-5, 6-8 at Reed, 9-12 at NHS Agree that NMS needs to be the school that should be closed. We came to Newtown for its exceptional school system. Please don't jeopardize that.

Putting our 8th graders in the high school is not only a bad idea but is an unmitigated disaster waiting to happen. For a BOE to be considering this idea which has zero positives and a plethora of negative consequences for our children is bordering on malpractice

8th graders do not belong in the high school, go back to the k-5, 6-8 and 9-12 configuration.

Its bad enough they are on the bus with High Schoolers...it would be a tragedy for this to happen.

This is crazy thinking!!! Keep the middle school grades together. You can't have a 5 year high school and 8 the graders are too young to be there. Who the heck is coming up with these ideas. Keep the Middle School. Close Reed, put 5 back in elementary and 6 in the Middle School.

This is a terrible solution that I believe will have a long lasting effect on this town. If the problem is that our population is shrinking, how is the solution something that would absolutely be a huge deterent for potential new families moving in? If we were moving here from another town (which we actually did last year) having our 8th graders be in High School would be a deal breaker. This would ultimately rob our children of their last true year of adolesence and force them into a social environment well above their maturity level. And "isolating" the 8th graders in the basement of the High School just seems worse. Isn't it better to let our kids be kids for as long as they can? I will be severely disappointed if 8th graders get thrown into High School. Please do not consider this option!

I know of no other school district with an 8-12 school. This seems exceedingly strange. Newtown is enough of an anomaly in FFC...let's not make it even more of an outlier. Proponent of k-5, 6-8, 9-12. Or keeping nms open in current configuration. Thank you!

Please don't put the 8th graders with the HS. We came to this town for its highly rated schools and its student focused school configuration. Thank you

8th graders DO NOT belong in High School. This is a Fairfield County town with prestige and tradition. Don't make changes. Thank you

My children are past 8th grade now but I would not have liked them at the high school.

I do not want my 8th grade student at the time this would happen to be housed at the high school. I feel this is an inappropriate place for children of this age and we need to come up with a better solution. I do not feel children in 8th grade are mature enough to be in a high school environment. I know they plan to keep them separated from the high school but I don't see this happening.

As a parent of a child with ADHD, the transition to 7th grade has been difficult enough - there is no way that Reed would have the space capabilities to prepare those kids to move directly to the high school. This is not a good option.

The middle school should remain open. Children need that opportunity to feel independence, and to transition into high school.
