Dear Speaker Heastie and Majority Leader Flanagan:
There is a crisis in New York healthcare. Patients in need, not enough nurses. It's putting New Yorkers at risk.
Hospitals are forcing nurses to take on as many as 12 patients at once. When that happens, patient care suffers. A patient's chances of death increases 7% for each additional patient a nurse must care for at one time.
New Yorkers deserve a nurse there when they need it most. The Safe Staffing for Quality Care Act (S. 782/A.8580-A) will set a maximum number of patients a nurse can care for at any one time. 84%* of New Yorkers agree that New York needs a safe staffing law.

my mom was in a ny hospital last month and the nurses were so swamped they couldnt even check her vitals on time. this is dangerous for everyone
