I am COMPLETELY against such a change in schedule. Disgusting.

Love to see that research - could you provide us a link? Also, for a student, you seem unusually well informed about the inside workings of this topic. You also write unlike any student I've ever known - more like a lawyer or administrator. Why don't you tell us who you really are? Or do we need to trace your IP address?

This change may limit student's ability to arrange his/her time as needed.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and this petition speaks for a large majority of the students and how they feel regarding the new schedule changes. This schedule was not made with students in mind.

It is already very difficult for the students to see teachers for assistance. This change will make it even more challenging and will negatively impact student performance. The loss of a day between classes will likely further exacerbate the difficulty in getting homework done and preparing for tests, especially when access teachers is more restricted. Futher, my daughter already has a very heavy backpack. Unless we go to all online textbooks, even ignoring the probable performance issues, I do not think the new schedule is workable.

The new "common learning time" is not flexible for high-efficient students. The new schedule is not a good way to encourage kids to be efficient and independent.

My son is a sophomore and absolutely thrives in the current environment. Please do not change the structure of the schedule.

im not going to be here next year but i think that ac lab is a important factor on getting good grades

Having gone to school in the Webster Groves school district until after 9th grade, I have experienced both the 7-hour day and the block schedule. Both have their benefits. The seven class schedule (implemented in Webster through the rotation of six classes out of seven every day) would increase class time per week by between 30 minutes to two hours. It creates a more regular academic system, and eliminates the possibility of some classes getting missed ridiculously more than others, such as the Series of blue day snow days last year. What everyone really cares about is Ac Lab. It did exist under the Webster 6 hour system, but it was not provided to every student above 9th grade, and different students had it at different times of the day. This could be a possible system under the "common learning time" proposal. The bottom line on ac lab is that, by virtue of school-wide time coordination, a mandatory ac lab is far more productive than an options

Dear Austin Bliss, Thank you so much for your incredible breakdown of the new schedule. But I will admit that I have already known this for some time now. In your very informative comment, you address my option to remain anonymous. While I do know that the schedule change decision is unpopular, I don't have to validate the majority opinion so that is not my reasoning. I have chosen to remain anonymous in order to prevent any harassment during school from those who are passionately against the new change. Now on to my argument. I assume that you are a successful, high achieving student. (I can't be sure since I don't have the privilege of knowing who you are.) You may be unable to relate to those who are failing multiple classes and how this may benefit them. The restructured ac lab promotes consultations with teachers and prevents people from ditching school to smoke weed at the infamous creek. The ram days increase contact time with teachers allowing the instructors to be sure their practices are working and hone in on curriculum instead of hoping you understand it and seeing you every two days. Other than that, you seem to be overlooking the iPad you received this year. This technology may seem like an expensive paperweight or video game console now, but in the future it will be more thoroughly integrated into the system allowing for ease of communication with teachers and, most likely, better resources for when you miss classes. I understand that you will miss senior privilege, not doing your homework on the day it is assigned, and total freedom to use your ac lab but you go to a school that provides a top ranking education. You need to assume the school is going to do what it takes to continue to provide that great education. In an institution such as this one, it is not good enough to be glad that many students are succeeding. We need to bring as many of those who are failing up to par as well. P.S. I'm an alumn of Ladue and this is ridiculous. It's a shame to even believe this change would be brought up in the first place.
