Absolutely ridiculous waste of public money, plus where have all the railings gone at the cross roads in Walton town Centre, very dangerous now!

I'm so glad this petition has been made, I cannot believe how wide the footpath/cycle lane has been made and I have not seen one cyclist use it, even round the roundabout towards Shepperton I still had a cyclist cut me up as I took the exit towards Walton Bridge which made me so angry I shouted at him to get on the cycle path!! Complete waste of money!!!

As a cyclist and observer of these new cycle lanes I've raised my concerns to Surrey County council about the true benefit, the money spent, lack of thought and lack or no consultation to the many cyclcle clubs that use the roads in and around Walton.
I don't need to repeat what has been said before as it's all common issues. But when I spent observing the use of the new cycle lanes 85% of cyclists were cycling on the narrower roads? it's been three weeks since I contacted SCC to hear there views and I'm still waiting .

Badly through out. All hedges ect should have been cut back to fence line before and what happens when accident happens

This has been a silly, expensive, inconvenient and now ultimately dangerous venture. Why, why, why have you chosen to endanger life? Removing the metal barriers in the centre of town to allow kids to potentially run directly into the narrow, fast road? It's clear road cyclists - who use this road regularly were not consulted. If they had they would have rejected this out of hand. The money would have been better spent relaying the road surface on the side roads in the town. Some are horrendous. DO SOMETHING USEFUL WITH OUR MONEY!

I used the new cycle paths a few days ago to get to work in Terrace Road. The biggest issue I have with them is that approaching every side road you need to be looking over your shoulder for cars turning in, while also watching in the other direction for cars approaching the junction. To do this with any degree of certainty you need to slow down almost to a halt. If there are pedestians also in the vicinity this adds to the issue. Personally I felt safer on the road when I am somewhat protected by rights of way and the rules of the road in general. I think they could be great for families with young children, school cyclists maybe, basically anyone not in a rush. I am afraid its very unlikely commuter cyclists and certainly the weekend cycling clubs will use them but will stick to the now narrowed roads. Surely it would have been better, safer and more cost effective to paint in a cycle lane (even if that did go onto the pavement in places) rather than this substantial road narrowing endeavor.

I am a cyclist. I have not used these paths as it's dangerous with both cyclists and pedestrians using them at the same time. You can't expect a pedestrian to stick to their side of the path and so as a cyclist you have to anticipate when the pedestrian in front of you is going to move over into the cycle area or not.

The new pavements are silly as the cyclist don't even use them.The cyclist still ride on the road, which makes it unsafe for them as the drivers can't overtake. Also when drivers park there cars on terrace road they cause traffic because they don't park on the curb.

Really silly idea as the cyclists who use the cycle path ride stright across my right of way on the road to get to the cycle path on the other side of the road I'm on.Also holds the traffic up if you have people cycling on both sides of the road with cars on both sides.There is no room for either car to over take the cyclist.Waste of money!

Nothing has been gained apart from using up the outstanding budget.
It's dangerous for cyclists and cars alike. Why not put in a cycle lane instead. Also paint double yellows along Terrace Road, as soon as someone parks along the road, the cycle path is not usable and causes traffic to back up.
Rather than making it better, it's more dangerous and causing more delays...
Well done Elmbridge/Surrey council another complete waste of money

Utterly ridiculous waste of time and money. No one wanted this, in a time of osterity I literally can't believe this got the green light . The only assumption I can make is that the council had a surplus which needed spending to ensure they had the same amount to spend next year , which if is the case is disgusting and the system needs a complete re think

Pedestrians are no longer safe on the pavements and drivers no longer have the space to pass cyclists. Blue or any colour paint lane would have saved the narrowing of roads - the widening of the pavements, Have mothers to keep their toddlers on a lead to stop them unwittingly running into the cycle path. I give up. If only the council would 'fess up and admit they've made a mistake and who made it. Did they actually walk the way first?

Whoever thought up these new cycle pathways in Walton on Thames and Shepperton is definitely NOT a cyclist. I have yet to see anyone cycling on it, if you come out of a shop you could walk straight into a bike. The roads have been narrowed to make the room for them and now cars are parking on the path/cycle lane outside their own houses as the road is now not wide enough to leave it on the road. A group of officials should have to get on bikes, be given a map and told to get from A to B using the lanes, and try and do it at 8 or 8.30am. then again at 11pm and see if they can see the black posted signs that are in the middle of the lane in the dark. I have not yet met anyone who see anything good about them, a complete waste of money. Well done!!!

I am a regular cyclist in Walton and would never use this ridiculous pathway. Very dangerous for cyclists and motorists alike.

I wish to protest and complain in the strongest possible manner against the ludicrous cycle path. It has narrowed the roads, increased congestion, affected households and businesses alike. I haven't heard one positive word. What idiot approved this?!
