Agree that it's a job badly thought out and would have been more suitable to have done a blue cycle lane.
It's obvious to the common person how dangerous and wasteful the whole project has been. The people in charge should have known better and now should be ashamed of their error.
It is a mixed bag of accidents waiting to happen now!

Cycle lanes are generally designed by drivers for the benefit of drivers!
The Walton cycle lanes are a shocking waste of money.

Terrible idea! And how about all the cars reversing out of the drives which now potentially could hit a cyclist going past??

These new lanes terrify me for pedestrians and for cyclists. It is not wide enough for either and is an accident waiting to happen.

Waste of time and money. A painted cycle lane is what was needed. Bad planning

Totally agree, waste of money and roads are now to narrow and dangerous especially if your in a bigger vehicle and as a resident of terrace road it has made getting out of my drive way onto the road extremely difficult as when turning onto the road I have to wait for the opposite side to have no traffic otherwise there is not enough room to turn without clipping another car!! Would a cycle lane on the existing road have been too difficult? Not too mention I have seen many cyclists still on the road and not using the paths!

Total waste of money and a death waiting to happen, either by a child being killed by cyclist on pavement, car pulling out of side junction into oncoming traffic., or head on collision by cars trying to overtake cyclists who will no doubt about it still be on road

Now when waiting to turn right outside the old Woolworth you just hold up all the traffic because nothing can get past you in the inside what used to be the ahead one lane.

positively dangerous, the roads are so narrow its crazy, half the cyclists don't use the paths which create more traffic jams, there will be a fatal accident soon. whoever thought of this scheme must be mad

The last how ever many months I have been having to drive around these so called road works for the new cycle lanes which is making everybody's journey a nightmare.. and after all this disruption it has made things worse in the long run for everyone especially cyclists. I too think it's a way to spend the budget and I also think that some of these councillor's have no clue when it's come to basic sense in road design. Please somebody with an ounce of common sense please apply for a job in this department of the council and help them do their job properly....

Don't we get a say about our roads anymore , we've got potholes all over the town , yet a stupid cycle path is more important , I've yet to see one person use it , accident waiting to happen. Do they think Walton folk don't pay enough in taxes

what a waste of public money. Leisure cyclists have the tow paths to use and serious cyclists are now in real danger from traffic as the roads are so narrow. Whoever agreed this needs to be sacked. Was there any form of discussion before it went ahead, were real cyclists asked for their views. It is a disaster waiting to happen. I agree with the comments about having to pull so far out it is dangerous. Also Carpetright corner in Walton what are cyclists supposed to do when they come along the cycle path and are immediately confronted with a number of people waiting to cross the road. Its dangerous but both cyclists and pedestrians are supposed to be on the same pathway at the same time. NO I am not a cyclist and with stupid decisions like this I never will be as I value my life.

Terrace road is now madness, any vans or lorries over transit size passing in opposite directions take up all the room leaving no margin for maneuvering in the event of pot holes, cyclists, people etc. Terrace road whcih was was always busy is now a living car park. The council will say there was a consultation but as with all these things, the practical implications are never fully understood until the roads are in use.
The cycle pavement is great for mums with buggies and kids on bikes or scooters, it is absolutely not fit for purpose for cyclists who use this method as their daily transport to work. Frankly this is a disgraceful waste of council tax. Ill thought through and seemingly with those who implemented this having zero accountability to the residents or the wider council.

Creating shared cycle lanes with pedestrians is dangerous. Couple that with cars parking on the cycle lanes and the narrower roads it creates, this does not achieve the intent. We now have wider pavements and narrower roads for cars and cyclists creating many other hazards. I'd be interested who the council consulted and what the aim and cost of the project was? Why wasn't a road based cycle land created?
Such a shame as it could have made a real difference.
