New pavements/cycle lanes in Walton on Thames are DANGEROUS!!!

I live on a Dudley Road. Since the installation of this farce I have only seen ONE cyclist using the new path. All others still use the road, only when they do the road is no longer wide enough to be used by cars going in both directions causing mini hold ups and traffic jams adding to the congestion already permanently present. Also cars are being parked all over the cycle path as they can no longer park along the road without causing severe obstruction. I too can not turn left out of Dudley road without going into the opposite lane or waiting for a gap so big that I can afford to turn left at the snail's pace it requires to avoid crossing the opposite lane. I am furious that money has been spent not only wastefully but actually dangerously and with NO THOUGHT FOR OUTCOMES, just a need to spend money given by government to avoid missing out on money next time. Bloody annoying and exactly why people don't give a fig about politics anymore, the people who made this decision clearly don't represent people, they are just opportunistic, tow-lining cowards too scared to say no.

I have lived on Dudley Rd off Terrace Rd for 10 years, having never witnessed a cycling accident. Last week a cyclist on the narrowed road was clipped by a car, sending the cyclist crashing to the ground onto the new, unused cycle path, which incidentally had a car fully parked over it to avoid blocking the narrow road. Thankfully his injuries were minor and soon after he was back on his way. This safety scheme has been ill thought out and is far more dangerous than what we had before, I'm certain it's only a matter of time before we have a fatality.

It's interesting that only 158 people responded to the consultation which WAS very well advertised in all forms of media and signage. Now when it's been built you start to moan. All the consultation responses were negative, along the same lines as all comments made now on this petition. Too narrow, need to giveway at side-roads, impossible head angles. This is the ultimate proof that Surrey CC are unable to build ANY safe infrastrure. Walton would be far better with (a) 20mph town centre, on road lanes, yellow box at Aldi entrance, less street furniture (more bike parking) and speed tables at side roads. It is too late, the consulation has passed, there is no more cash, the box has been ticked. You missed tghe boat.

Wider footpaths that the cyclists DO NOT use and narrower roads that make it dangerous for everyone. Well done!

I know the council response begins with 'we notified everyone' but didn't try hard enough too many locals did not know what was about to happen.
That said I think the enginners that designed this schem have got it wrong and thier professiona insurnace should be approiached to come up with some form of remediation in preparation for the first death that will invariably attributed to interpretation of DOT guidelines in an overly fastidious manner. the sum of the parts of this scheme are not fit for purpose and should be rectified. rather than encourage cycling I feel less inclined to use my bike than I did previously.

The narrowing of the road has made the overtaking of any serious cyclists, who still use the road because they do not wish to mow down pedestrians or children and dogs, even more dangerous than it was before. And the reduction of the road width at the lights in Walton town centre has increased traffic congestion considerably.

Driving into Walton along Terrace Road is now hazardous, cyclists will continue to ride on the main carriageway as there are too many junctions for them to negotiate from the cycle path. The narrowing of the road has made it impossible to pass cyclists when there is oncoming traffic causing even more congestion than there was previously. Turning left out of Sandy Lane has now become dangerous as you have to cross onto the far side of the road to make the turn, this results in some drivers cutting the corner and mounting the pavement, which has already resulted in the impaired sighted slabs having to be replaced. What next? will it be a pedestrian being knocked over? Whoever thought of this money wasting scheme is obviously not a motorist or a cyclist and should be relieved of their job immediately.

anyone can see that this is crazy, there will be more accidents, more traffic jams and the cycle lanes just won't be used - does the decision maker actually visit the site to test!

As a cyclist and a car driver I would not use this road or new cycle path for cycling as it is very dangerous

Traffic is still fast along terrace road, and cyclists will not use the new paths, so it is ridiculously dangerous for all. There is a school where children may come into contact with fast cyclists, an accident I waiting to happen, it's been in the news already. These shared pavements are NOT the way forward...

As a cyclist as soon as I saw what was being done on the roads everything mentioned in the petition is exactly what I thought. Complete waste of money. I will not use the cycle lanes shared by pedestrians and children, not only because the cycle lane is continuisly broken up but pedestrians and children are unpredictable in their walking direction.

Very well written petition. Just wanted to add as a parent pushing a pushchair in Walton now at the traffic lights it dangerous to stand waiting for the green man to cross the road as the cycle lane goes straight through the pavement! Ridiculous!

Ridiculous idea, clearly made by someone who has never been on a bike and very clearly never even been down Terrace Road!!!!!!! The person in charge should be publicly named and shamed for such a ridiculous idea and they should refund the full cost of the whole operation!!!!! Asif thats gonna happen!!! #useless

Should have just painted a white line cycle lane along the road . That way the road could have been resurfaced and a cycle lane put in . Pedestrians and cyclists would be am safer

Cyclist are not using these new lanes. Also in most areas cyclists have been given more space then pedestrians
