New pavements/cycle lanes in Walton on Thames are DANGEROUS!!!

This project puts pedestrians in danger from cyclists. It will also increase congestion and hence pollution levels effecting many Walton residents. It has reduced further the limited number of parking places available to residents. It was no doubt thought a wonderful idea by S.C.C. Highways Officers. For SCC it had the added advantage of keeping their favoured contractor, Kier, happy. The scheme should have been strongly opposed by the Walton County Councillor, Rachel Lake, but it wasn't.

Not only is the cycle lane dangerous the quality of the work carried out is terrible. There are manhole covers at the junction of Cambridge Road 100mm above the road level. Most of the drop downs from the pavement to the road are to high and have been finished by placing tarmac to finish off the ramp, how long will this last.

Put it back & paint a cycle lane.. And use the bonuses of the idiots at Surrey council who let this happen to pay for it! What a waste of our tax money!!!

I couldn't agree more with this petition. Not only is it a danger as the cyclists won't use the new lanes as there are too many hazards, kerbs, and pedestrians using the middle of the pavement. It is also causing real tailbacks for traffic as the roads are so narrow overtaking is impossible.

It's dangerously narrow and an accident waiting to happen. Prevent someone getting injured or worse prevention is better than cure!!!

I have seen so many near misses with this new lanes. Than there was before. The cyclists aren't going to cross each individual road properly they just shoot out, such a terrible idea

They are utterly useless at the moment. I haven't seen a single cyclist use them and as they continue to use the road there is a lot more risk to them and drivers performing dangerous manoeuvres to get round them.

Would love to know what research was done by the council prior to these road/pavement alterations being made. Have not seen one single cyclist on the pavement since they have been widened, making it now near on impossible to pass them safely on the roads. I'm suprised it hasn't caused accidents already!!

The roads are now far to narrow and where they have extended the paths it means the turns out of side roads into terrace road are too much so cars have to go wide into the road otherwise they hit the paths , good idea in principle but bad practice , it's a accident waiting to happen

It's so dangerous now. Only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.

I Couldn't agree more with this petition! The road/pavement changes the council have made have caused nothing but problems. Pedestrians now have to share the path with cyclists (not very good if you have children walking beside you - and this is a busy route for mums and kids on school run) plus i have seen several cars now parked fully on the paths so they don't get their cars clipped (because the road is so narrow!) Which then makes it difficult for pedestrians and cyclists anyway. Also cyclists using the narrow roads are putting themselves at danger because cars are trying to overtake them on such narrow roads - causing frustration to drivers because its so difficult to overtake them safely. The whole thing has been a waste of money and not one person ive spoken to like the changes!

What a waste of money when the cyclists don't use the new cycle path. The roads are thinner and more hazardous to drivers and cyclists.

I totally agree with the comments here. I work in an office on Terrace Road and have found that Terrace Road is now much more dangerous to all than it ever was before.
Sincerely,
Judith Robertson

Bikes stay on the road as don't want to stop to cross each intersecting road, so the path isn't used!
