New Orleans Citizens for Fair Parking

I am a theatre artist, arts educator and member of the New Orleans community. I am currently in a show at the Little Gem Saloon. I know how difficult this would make life on the entire cast of the show if this was currently in place. This would affect all members of the community that contribute life to this city.

When you raise parking, you're hurting the industry that helps run this city. You're service industry is already struggling with low wages, high rent, and high food costs. Give us a break!

How about taking care of residents?? Jesus.

The City needs to find another way to balance the budget than parking fines. I work in the Quarter and it is ridiculous. Even when I'm very careful, I still get tickets. If I were a visitor to the City, spending money in the City, I would feel insulted by the mercenary ticketing tactics.

This is another move by the city that is obviously greedy and will hurt the locals that live and work in the French Quarter. We already get towed for having 1 parking ticket,what's next

The consequences of this will hurt the Warehouse District dinner crowd. Already events have to face the limited parking. With this anyone going to a 2 hour evening event will not be able to park on the street, because the meter will expire during the event and they will get a ticket.

It is an unreasonable burden on those in the hospitality business.

So to the best of my knowledge, this parking increase is suppose to help with the state budget/debt, but we'd need more parking management on foot, for longer hours, and the time extension is an added stress on the people who work in the area of business that brings in some of the most money for Louisiana, hospitality and tourism.

Who will run your five star restaurants for all the fat cats filling our city coffers,eh? Fuck this.

Lakeside Mall over the Riverwalk. Sam’s Club in Kenner over Costco in Mid-city. Any cinema in Metairie over those in New Orleans. Raising parking fees in New Orleans will push customers to businesses outside the parish. Increasing fees and extending meter hours would be counterproductive for New Orleans’ retail boom. For a family wanting to spend a day enjoying New Orleans, parking fees would rise 280% in the French Quarter and 133% in the rest of the city. Remarkably, the increase would make operating a private parking facility—either as a surface parking lot or a garage with multiple levels of parking—more profitable, and it would slow down the conversion of parking lots to residential and mixed uses. Everyone can agree that New Orleans benefits when surface parking lots are eliminated in favor of new high-rises full of families and offices. When public parking meter rates are hiked, private parking lot operators benefit for free and can artificially raise prices because the baseline price of their product—parking—has just been increased. Encouraging locals to shop, eat, and entertain themselves downtown is a key component of reviving New Orleans’ retail sector. If I told a potential customer that the cost of parking all-day in the French Quarter would nearly triple, I can guarantee that he would make his purchases elsewhere. Instead of spending a day filled with shopping and dining in the French Quarter, a family might save time and money by making only one transaction or avoiding my neighborhood altogether. When I want to get a haircut and pick up some groceries, I would prefer to give my business to French Quarter establishments, but ample free parking, convenience, and widespread options outside of downtown sometimes take my dollars away to places like Metairie. If consumers stop coming to New Orleans or cut back on purchases from local establishments, increasing the cost of parking could easily lead to lower sales tax receipts for the city. A sudde

This will keep even more locals and tourists from coming to the quarter...not to mention how much it will greatly impact the peope like me that own a business in the quarter but live elsewhere and have to drive in daily. The cost is already excessive!!

This is an undue burden on the working people of the Quarter.

I play jazz guitar in the French Quarter 6 times a week, this would be over $100 week in parking meters as my gig is 3:30pm till 9:30pm, I pay now till 6pm and it taking away from my musician imcome!!

Ridiculous the way the city plans to make money out of the residents who live and work in the city.

Increasing the harassing of the citizens of #NewOrleans, good way for #MitchLandrieu to cover his over expending and reckless administration.

The extension in parking times and the increase in parking meter rates will most greatly affect French quarter service industry workers I know this as I worked in the French quarter for many years at Iris and Cafe Giovanni.

You cannot keep increasing parking etc. that hurts tourist, employees, band members anx others and keep a thriving tourism in New Orleans.

No! Stop focusing on the wrong things and start leading this city out of crime! Better USE of funds is important. Not padding pockets of the people already in office. Stop punishing our citizens. And start protecting them.

This is outrageous. There are other ways for the city to make money like taxing all Churches.
