we will still be going to the Board of Education meeting this Monday (December 1) to talk about the importance of including an auditorium or other adequate performance space at the new Oak Grove high school. PLEASE NOTE -- For those interesting in coming to show support, the meeting has been moved to Davis Townsend Elementary School and is now at 6:45 pm.

A true commitment to the arts would be a welcome inclusion in the new school. A gymnasium is not an auditorium facility, and makes a poor substitute for one. It is sad that sports facilities always seem to make a short list for schools, but arts programs and facilities rarely do. Our young people deserve better.

It is more cost efficient to include when designing the facility than to add as an addition in the future.

As a band student, it is important that there is an auditorium to have concerts at. Also, Ledford has an amazing theater program, and those kids are going to be transferred to Oak Grove as well. Where are you going to make the theater kids perform if there is no auditorium? Lastly, an auditorium could also bring in extra revenue for the school because it could be rented out by other organizations. I know the North Davidson band would probably use it if it was large enough since our auditorium is too small and we have to go elsewhere for our concerts.
