We need your help! After meeting with the Assistant Superintendent, Steve Oates, we urge you to sign this petition to support a change in administration at Lewisville Elementary School. This change will help support our school, our teachers and especially our children. While our teacher turnover rate was 7% each year for 5 years in a row, it has climbed each year since new administration arrived 2 years ago and is over 30% this year. This mass exodus of teachers reflects a failure in administration.

When signing the petition, indicate in the comment section if you've emailed and/or called central office with your concerns. We would like to have this information in order to compile our "parent concern" file. Also, if sending an email to Mr. Oates ([email protected]), consider copying Dr. Emory ([email protected]).

Updates

July 20, 2014

The turnover rate at our school is unacceptable and shows we need immediate leadership changes. Email Steve Oates and Dr. Emory today to tell them exactly why you signed this petition. Post your confirmation on Facebook to keep the pressure on the district office.

July 20, 2014

The momentum behind this push is real and the board at the central office is starting to notice. Send an email to Mr. Oates and Dr. Emory today to ensure they understand exactly why these changes are necessary. Please text three friends now and ask them to add their names to our list.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have seen in my years as either being a student or the parent of a student in the WSFCS system. If you had any hard factual evidence against the administration at LES this petition wouldn't be necessary. Maybe teachers are leaving because of salaries and better opportunities. You say this isn't a joke. Okay, put on some evidence other than teachers are leaving. Teachers are leaving the profession everywhere, not just LES. You want happy teachers? Talk to the Governor about getting them the compensation they deserve. Good teachers are important in every school. This energy should go to the bigger fight which is to make things better for all teachers at all schools, not blaming the administration of one.

Sent my email to Oates this morning. Hope they actually listen to us for once because the current situation is totally unsustainable for the students.

I really hope this works. Lewisville used to be such an amazing place for the kids but lately it is just constant stress and confusion for everyone.

30% turnover is insane. You cannot run a school like that and expect the kids to thrive. It feels like the culture is completely destroyed.

My kids have had three different teachers this year alone. It is disruptive and honestly heartbreaking to watch them lose their favorite educators one by one. Something is definitely wrong here.

What a joke! Some parents must have nothing better to do than sit home and try to stir up controversy. Has anyone spoke with the teachers that left? Several chose to retire, several accepted jobs that equated to a promotion and others left the profession for personal reasons. If you examine the teacher turnover within the school system and NC, you will find Lewisville is on par with the system and state. I would argue it's a reflection of the lack of salary increases and changes in required curriculum rather than new administration. You mention turnover rate, have you examined school performance? The test scores have also improved with the new administration. I would hope performance of the school overall is more important than a slight increase in turnover that can easily be attributed to a number of circumstances! Have any of you actually spoken to the administration regarding your concerns? I hope Mr. Oates and Dr. Emory see through all of this blustering.

This is not a joke. These are concerned parents that have been at this school for many years and have seen many changes the last two years. These are also parents who have personal relationships with teachers and staff at this school and are very disheartened at the management style of the last two years. These are parents who want the best education for their children which means we want happy teachers. These are parents who help this school in many ways by supporting it with our contributions and time. These are parents who have personal relationships with teachers and staff at other schools and are from are from education families. These are parents who have tried to talk with the administration. These are parents who are not that concerned about standardized test scores. These are parents who did not get alarmed two years ago because we were hoping for the best with the change in the administration. These are parents who care.
