We have far less rabies in Canada than what is in the US, I contacted the CDC to ask how many puppies had come into the US from Canada with rabies and they had no anser

No dog from Canada has ever come to the US with rabies. It is in the wild animals that cross the borders both ways, not responsibly bred dogs!

I think that puppies over 8 weeks who have yet to be vaccinated for rabies should be approved with a signed agreement to have the puppy vaccinated by a certain date after arrival. Outright banning the dogs until they have been vaccinated for 30 days is just unreasonable!

I got my golden from canada and hoping to go get another family member...now I feel like I will not be able too. this causes breeders in the usa to sky rocket puppies such as the english cream goldens.

I agree totally with the reasoning behind this petition. I understand start dogs being imported by rescue organizations from third world con tries, may prove to be at risk for disease and should be vaccinated prior to entry into the USA. However, individual puppies purchased as pets, breeding stock and show/working dogs, should be exempt for the very obvious reasons such as lack of exposure to would animals, raised in the breeders home and out of dams who are vacinntaed and give temporary immunity to their nursing puppies.

Fewer than 0.5% of domestic dogs are positive for rabies in the US and the incidence of rabies is not increasing. This legislation has NO benefit to public health.
For the love of dogs and dog owners please don't do it :(

What is the purpose of this new regulation? I have never heard of even one case of rabies being transmitted by a puppy coming from a registered breeder. This regulation will serve to divide the genetic diversity we try to enhance by working with our US friends. Where is the research to back this decision. Were breeders ever involved in any form of consultation? If it was a decision made by science then let's see the data. If this was a political decision based on some kind of economic protectionism then this goes against the intention of the Canada US Free Trade Agreement. So which is it science or politics?
