We are a group of students at Loara High School that are trying to improve street safety in areas around our campus. Based on a survey taken by students of varying grades, we have concluded that most students jaywalk due to a lack of crosswalks in between two long intersections and that many students will feel more safe commuting to and from school if there were more crosswalks. Since there are no crosswalks between Euclid St. and Nutwood Ave., this petition has been created to add a crosswalk on Cerritos Ave. and Old Fashion Way to decrease the number of students that have to jaywalk in order to get to and from school and lower the risk for traffic accidents. By adding a crosswalk at this location, we can improve the safety of not only students from Loara High School, but also the students of James Madison Elementary School.
