Wouldn’t have moved to NC if I had known that the start time would be 745 for my small children.

Please keep the start times as is. If you genuinely believe our children aren't reaching their fullest potential, or aren't successful with the amount of sleep they currently receiving, why are New Canaan schools always tops in the state for education? Please reconsider the additional cost(s) and disruption to extracurricular activities.

Parents need to teach kids how to manage time and how to go to sleep at a time that will allow them the rest they need. Take away the technology! The real world outside has schedules that start early, and we need to teach our kids how to function in the real world. Parents, do your job, eliminate late night use of technology, and make them get up and out the door.

Job #1 for kids should be to become the best students possible and prepare for the real world. That means going to bed and following routines and house rules to enable them, or teach them, how to fall asleep. As parent who would have their kids plug their technology (all of it) into kitchen chargers to reenergize for the next day 30 minutes prior to bedtime, mornings were rarely if ever a problem. For working parents and childcare needs, the current system works. I think that parents need to be more disciplined in teaching good sleep routines for their children, and eliminate the use of late night technology. Both of my kids have said a later start time is ridiculous. If kids need to get more sleep, maybe they should cut out the many extracurricular activities.

This is not good for dual working families and will make it even harder to attract them to our town, given lack of childcare options (waitlist and lottery only unless they can pay for a nanny). More planning needs to go into this before a change is made.

If New Canaan changes and other towns don’t follow, it’s going to be a disaster. Students will have to leave class even earlier for extracurriculars and have to stay up later to finish their work. Changing start times will affect all surrounding towns and make it very difficult for working parents.

The start time change is ridiculous! I hope it doesn't pass. It only will make HS kids stay up even later if all sports are going to run later and also no teacher will want to stay late for extra help.

If the students get a later start time they’ll get more sleep and therefore perform better in school

As a track athlete, this will not help my teammates next year when it is pitch black on the track. Even if you end up buying lights, you’re already spending thousands of dollars on top of the million dollar addition to the budget. Practices will run too late and everyone will get the same amount of sleep in the end.

My family is very comfortable with the times the way they are. As a single mother who works as a teacher and leaves for work very early, the current schedule works very well for me personally. I understand the arguments on the other side but I’m happy with things the way they are. I don’t think this is worth the expense. And I would have to consider the teachers as well And it seems many of them are against this change.
