Nessah Board of Director met on 8/31/2017 and passed a motion to reduce the size of the next Board of Directors from 13 to 11. This means that the number of past presidents, as permanent members of the board (8), will be more than the number of the elected board members (3).
The "Past Presidents", 8 people, shall have the required 2/3 majority to change the bylaws and the structure of Nessah Synagogue. Elections will be meaningless from now on and the past presidents will be the permanent decision makers without any regards to members, the community or the bylaws.
This is undemocratic, unethical and illegal!
Please sign this petition to urge the current Nessah Board of Directors to take the following two actions:
1. We ask the board to immediately rescind this motion!
2.We ask for a bipartisan committee to be formed to correct the deficiency in the bylaws which allows permanent board membership to past presidents of the board.
we do not propose to change the Bylaws. They are fine. We are addressing the issue of permanency of membership for past presidents, which is being abused here. A group who act as if they are the owner/operators of Nessah are doing this to keep themselves in power. It is clear once they see the opposition from vast sections of the community, they have to fold and not cause further division in our community.
