I believe it is undeniable that the devastation experienced here in Nelson County during hurricane Camille should be enough reason to strengthen our floodplain ordinance and protect people here from travesties such as the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline project. Please see that this is done.

I moved to Nelson County 20 years ago (to high ground above the Rockfish) because my house was flooded in Sugar Hollow. I was alledgedly NOT in the flood plain there. Anything can happen with rivers, streams and rain. Please update our floodplain ordinance now!

Living near the Rockfish River, I witness first hand on a fairly regular basis the destruction that flooding brings.

Thank you for your show of integrity in honoring all the lives lost due to flooding in Nelson. A tragic price to pay for clear evidence that running pipelines alongside/through the James River could prove catastrophic to our sacred lands, treasured animals, and humans for generations to come.

I see no reason why we shouldn't upgrade our Floodplain Ordinance to comply with the DCR's recommendations. Please take action on this and make sure that Nelson County gets all the NFIP discounts and other protections that we can!

When I moved to Nelson County in 1979, the 25.4 acres my husband and I purchased in the Faber area still showed the scars of Camille. The stream that bisects the property had made a deep gouge into the earth on the side nearest the rural route. Vegetation now covers the scar but I never forget that it is there. Nelson County needs the most robust flood protection possible.
