Even a quality animated version with the voices of the original actors would work .

After mucking up the PERFECT set-up that was left by Jim Cameron; the ability to continue Ripley's story for as long as Sigourney Weaver was willing, a romantic interest/ partner in Hicks, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, the handoff from one STRONG female protagonist to another in Newt- who had an even stronger personal vendetta against the Aliens, it's time to give this; a PROPER continuation (albeit shortened due to the passing of time,) to the fans. There hasn't been a fan I've known that (regardless of their feelings of Alien 3,) has felt like they were NOT CHEATED by spending 2 hours plus following and becoming attached to Hicks & Newt, only to have them unceremoniously dumped before the opening credits finished in Alien 3, relegated from main characters to nothing more than mere motivation.
The fallacy that having 2 concurrent storylines in the Alien-verse, taking place at different times, would somehow be "confusing to fans," is just that... A fallacy. The recent success of the Star Wars films is proof that not only is it untrue, but that it can be HUGELY successful.
If ANYTHING else should be gleaned from the recent Star Wars news, it's that our First Ladies of Space shouldn't be taken for granted. With Carrie Fisher's untimely passing, we should be all the more grateful for what she and Sigourney Weaver gave us- strong female leads in a hugely male-dominated genre. While we certainly hope that Ms. Weaver, Michael Biehn, and Lance Henriksen have many more years left bringing us fans the joy of their presence on screens both big and small, tomorrow is never a guarantee, and every tomorrow draws us closer to our time.
Don't leave this shelved. Please.
I look forward to continuing the love of the Alien films to my son, much like it was introduced to me by my father. I hope not to have to explain that Hicks & Newt were relegated to mere plot devices in Alien 3, but even worse, I'd hate to explain that an opportunity arose to fix that sad error and it was bypassed bec
