It’s absolutely unfair to deny him to play sports. There have been so many kids move that did move for athletics and they were able to play. When a kid wants to be with his brothers out of absolutely nothing more than growing up with them and being at the same school he’s denied. He was doing just fine being recognized for sports at his other school so this is absolutely ridiculous. Let the boy play and enjoy his High school years with his family

Thank you for the support we are working to file claim against New Deal for several issues. We know personally basketball players were recruited. The school should be ashamed. Nehemiah will stand out regardless of where he is. God has a plan much greater than the evil.

I hate new deal, Sundown is far better in every aspect. Anyways, let the kid play. My reasoning you wonder? Let me explain. Not only does it hinder him from life lessons for his future that he will learn on a higher level of competition, it also takes one full year away from the shortest, most fun four years of an athlete. Thats twenty-five percent of this kid’s dream of competing in varsity sports and so forth. I understand that it is never right for an athlete to transfer to another high school for recruiting or athletic purposes (Although New Deal has done it for years), but he has not moved to another school district where he doesn’t have another guardian to live with. He moved in with his father, and if you [UIL] have never experienced your [UIL] parents splitting apart and living in two different homes, then you [UIL] cannot assume he moved in with his father for athletic reasoning. Theres many reasons why someone would, but it is not my place to need an explanation for his transition to live with his father. Frankly, it shouldn’t be yours [UIL] either. On another note, you [UIL] ought to look into New Deal’s kids who move into there school district, and explain how they rebuild every year (and still lose to Sundown) with high caliber athletes who are transfers. Just my two cents, nothing important.

Sour Grapes? That makes no sense, and it's just athletics. New Deal Lions will move on from this issue and focus on the kids that are there and to succeed. The coaching staff did a big favor for Martinez and he will have to suffer the consequences.

Go read that entire article, and it's quoted, "Nehemiah Martinez, a sophomore running back and track star, will only be allowed to compete for Cooper’s sub-varsity teams until Jan 8, 2019. That will be the one-year anniversary of his transfer into the Cooper school district." It's in the second paragraph.

Why punish? Nehemiah Martinez is moving for athletic reasons, it's that simple.

He was a stud against Sundown when he went to New Deal, so I want to see him play at Lubbock Cooper! It’s pretty obvious that his move wasn’t athletically based though.

Having to travel to go to school is an inconvenience on the parents and the child in many ways. I cant understand why he cant go to the school district that he lives in. Makes no sense!!
