Needle Exchange Program

I'm not sure when the privileges of drug users became more important than the rights of citizens and home owners in the city. This needs to be addressed, the safety of my children should not be outweighed by safe drug usage.

Create a program to dispose of the used needles as well as a holistic program to help those who have these substance use disorders. NO pharmaceuticals drugs don't help which is part of the reason for substance use disorders and mental health disorders in the first place.

The whole "safe injection site" is beyond ridiculous. The whole concept should be shut down. What a waste of money, resources and it's putting everyone at risk. Shame on this community.

Hate bringing my kids to a park only to find needles on the ground. Also can't stand the rise in crime around the safe use site.

The best part about this petition is it proposes a very good solution which is a lot better than what the program has done so far: "We as the residents here, would like to see a program of some sort be created so that the needles are either no longer allowed off the property of these places, or at least have the policy of old needles having to be returned if those using want new ones. " I cannot wait until the elections and people start talking about re-election based on facilitating "safe communities" - obviously, nobody cared when this then and their attitudes towards it is a simple shrug and re-direct the call to someone who equally doesn't care. Enough!!

I support changes to the safe injection site, needle exchange and arches program. My family and nearly every person i know, has frequently, and moreso in the last year been affected by needle using drug addicts. Due to leftovers such as soiled clothes and garbage. Tripping out and screaming, throwing things, and trying to get into apartments through windows. As well as used needles abandoned in parks, private front and back yards, playgrounds and more. Along with the direct physical and verbal violence from somebody on hard drugs. Labeling drug addiction as a disease has further formed a social disease. One that does directly affect the entire city in an extremely negative way. Simply being outside in nearly any given residential area poses a risk of either direct confrontation from someone trying to get more to shoot up, or having your children stepping on, or picking up needless by accident, for example. The police force seems to be either becoming exhausted with finding ways to handle the weight of these issues, or they are giving up. The rights of everyday, tax paying families are being shoved to the side more and more, and it is pain old shameful. Drug addiction isn't one choice gone wrong. It is a constant stream of bad decisions, made by a person, who should be held accountable for their decisions and the consequences that follow.

The issue of drug injections occurring in our public places using needles given to them at Arches MUST BE ADDRESSED. The drugs are ILLEGAL. If you need to hire more police, then do so. The issue of funding shouldn’t be an issue since I’ve seen Council waste so much of our taxes on meaningless projects such as the bike lane on 13 Street. Which is more important, a bike lane or the safety of our citizens from drug users using in public places?

Found a full needle in my back alley when i was raking.

Really sad

Husband was doing yard work today right along our fence in the back alley and found a needle right beside the garbage can, he was raking but if he was just picking up brush and leaves with his hands he would have gotten jabbed.

Clean up this city!!

An FYI... I have emailed and talked to city council about this incident. I had a near miss when my 7 year old son walked into a public washroom with needles on the ground, used clothes and feces. Just missing a junkie shooting up. The mayor kindly said there is nothing they can do, brushing the incident off. Enough is enough.

I find this to be ridiculous. They are drug addicted they should not have special rights or even given free needles that’s what they wanted they wanted to outbid that needle into there arm that was there choice. But now all these children get to witness all of this what would happen if one of my own kids or any child picked one up and was playing with one or poked them selfs this is beyond fair I have my daughter come home and tell me she seen a girl laying on the grass with needles all around her and she was afraid for her safety. And didn’t know if the lady was alive or dead. There should be no safe house for them. No nutses to make sure they don’t over dose like come on. What about drinkers or pot smokers do they get special treatment I don’t think so so what’s makes them get it. I find it down right disgusting that my kids and anyone else’s kids have to witness this and see needles and then laying outside of there own school all doped up!!!

I have 4 kids and this is very scary!!
