I as well feel we are catering to addicts while we tax paying citizens are at risk from needles, addicts and theft of anything not bolted down. The downtown area is not changing with the new injection site, still littered with used needles etc. Who will stand up for us?!

Walking your dog or taking kids to the park turns into a complete scan of the premises to make sure its safe. Stop enabling addicts! Its ridiculous!

Let's recap:
The people who give needles to the drug addicts KNOW that many of those bio hazard needles will end up in a park, playground, public bathroom, etc. After all, when an addict wakes up from their drug induced stupor, they're not thinking, "Oh I better be a good citizen and dispose of this needle properly". Hell no! They're thinking, "Where can I rob someone for my next hit". So, the needle remains to endanger the law abiding citizens of Lethbridge and their children.
Arches keeps talking about the health of the addict, yet ignores the fact that they are significantly increasing the danger to the tax paying non-addicts, and especially the kids.
If anything, the people who hand out needles to addicts and expect the addicts to return them, are the people that should go into rehab for addiction to the "Delusional Drug".

Please address this problem. It's out of control. My children can't even play at the parks in their own neighbourhood because the areas are littered with discarded, used needles.

We totally understand your concerns as we live in the London Road area and are fully aware of what has been going on in the last couple of years. I feel that this needle program is only enabling the drug users and not dealing with the real problem....the drug dealers.

In the end, all the safe boxes and whatever are not enough. Addiction is not addressed but enabled because that's about all they are willing to do. And the kids have nowhere safe to play. I know! Build areas around Arches, in their parking lots and let people shoot up there and clean up after them! Make it law that they can't leave the Arches premises. I'd also be raising holy hell! Way to go Miss Lyra!

Needles and drug paraphernalia should not be found in lying around. I’ve quit going to the public library due to drugs and loitering and avoid certain parks. The drug problem is affecting all age groups and all citizens.

Arches calling themselves a "safe injection site", and having a "needle exchange" is a half truth. The full truth is, they hand out needles to the drug addicts (with no return policy), and tell them to go outside somewhere to inject themselves. It's total BS.

With these places available I think it is a good idea to keep the needles at the distribution sites absolutely, there hasn’t been a day I don’t see some sort of drug paraphernalia on the streets, it’s sad

The people who give needles to junkies know that many will just leave them on the ground. As such, this is endangering the public and against the criminal code of Canada.

It's awful, there are at least a handful of needles in our parking lot where I work each morning not too mention the "other" things that are left behind from the night, sometimes even the people are still there sleeping or completely out of it. I couldn't even go into a convenience store this morning because someone who was clearly high wouldn't move away from the door and the poor lady inside was scared. It's sad, this is not the city I moved to 20 years ago.

Something needs to change. I will not be bringing my kids to the Galt Fountains, the downtown YMCA Civic Track Field or even the Farmers Market this Summer after hearing of multiple needles being found in the grass by a friend on a recent trip. How terrifying! Doing morning "clean sweeps" of these areas is not enough to make me feel safe. So disappointing as I was just starting to love the new feel of downtown Lethbridge.
