I am extremely concerned about the current system in place at the safe injection site. There needs to be some accountability in the form of a needle exchange program because currently there is little accountability. You cannot rely on addicts to think rationally after using and trust them to discard needles safely. For public safety, a needle exchange program must be implemented immediately. The point of a safe injection site is to reduce the incidence of diseases spread through shared needles, however our children are being put at risk because these "free" needles are being discarded in public places.
I think that needles should not be allowed out of the Arches building and that addicts should be required to use the free needles on site where they can be safely monitored and the hazardous materials contained. Perhaps there can be some research done to discover if this could be the next step in keeping everybody safe.

The safety of our children shouldn’t be second to addicts getting high. Drugs are illegal and now you are promoting that and taking away our children’s basic rights. This is not the answer. So please stop continuing with something that clearly isn’t working!

Until proper procedures are put in place to protect our children, needles need to stop being handed out immediately!!!

Found a needle behind my house and now I feel like moving out of Lethbridge so I don't need to worry about an addict tossing a needle over the fence into my yard where my kids play. As a side note, I share the back alley with Westminster School. We found two caps and only one needle.

Free weapons for distribution isn't my idea of a solution to the drug problem . Handing out needles to users who are potentially infected with deadly diseases and letting them get into the hands of anyone is negligent. This needs to stop!!

I hope something gets done with this I work near the site and at 6:30 when I go to work it breaks my heart to see everyone waking up near the site.

Never should have started the safe injection sites in the first place because no matter what nowhere is safe to inject. Injecting yourself with needles is a danger all in all and putting those sites there says that you support injection of a dangerous substance and that will only make things worse by allowing people to think that injecting is fine.

You are just feeding the addictions, causing harm to the city's citizens and putting children in harms way. An addict who is high on whatever drug is not coherent or aware enough to clean up after themselves. If we need to worry about our children going to school or walking to school picking up needles and getting needle stick injuries this city has a major problem. Get rid of the problem at it's source, it is not working.
