The school calendar allowed for this when I first started teaching. If all of our jobs are to be centered on what’s best for the students, then this should not be a problem.

The break really causes my students to lose information. Especially for my special needs students who already struggle with retention.

School districts would not have to worry about the weather as much if high school students tested before Christmas. In the Piedmont/Triad, we hardly ever get wintry precipitation in December.

Yes, this would be best solution since we hardly ever get wintry weather in the south in the month of December.

It is completely unfair to our students to make them have to wait two weeks of vacation to take their final exams. Vacation should be a time of rest..... mental as well as physical.... and they should be able to just forget about their classes in school and come fresh after vacation and start the new semester. Coming back after two weeks vacation having two or three days to review and then have to take exams is absolutely insanely ridiculous.

High school teacher.
Snow or ice always alters our exam schedule. How is that good for teachers or students?

I have never understood this schedule. I feel like students would perform better having these exams before winter break. They're exhausted after a 8-9 day break and come back to take exams?? It just doesn't make sense. Let them take exams before winter break, get that stress over with and enjoy their holiday with their family.

I graduated high school in 1999, we had block schedules and did our exams before the Christmas break and it was wonderful, we also graduated on May 22 instead of the current date which is around June 10 in our county.
