It makes absolutely no sense to test after Christmas break. As a former employee of the state school system it’s a stress on the teachers and the kids. Let them test before Christmas, while the information is still fresh and not after being off of school for two weeks. This would also give teachers time to prepare for their new students they are going to have when they come back from Christmas.

As a retired high school teacher I think it is absolutely ridiculous that first semester exams are after Christmas break. All NC systems should be allowed to start school the new school early enough to complete exams prior to Winter Break. Seems only the most logical thing.

With the bad weather delays and closings we have had this year, students will try and show what they learned before Dec. 15. At this point this is more than a month prior. I had students who used AP credits to save money on college coursework. Even elementary and middle school students are trying to conclude a 1st semester that just keeps dragging on. I am an educator and believe a calendar change would benefit all students in NC public schools.

Yes! Just had three kids go through the high school system in NC and the current schedule is awful. And when you wait until January the exams get interrupted with snow days.

I feel moving final exams before the holiday break would greatly benefit our students. As a teacher, I would not mind starting earlier in August to make this happen.
