Please consider the reality that students are not going to study over break, and should complete their exams closer to the time they study the subject. If the school system is so concerned about test scores, then the students should take the tests sooner and not drag out the semester, when they can move onto new subjects.

In full agreement. I teach high school CTE classes.

100% agree! The calendar decision should have the best interest of the kids in mind first and foremost. Tourism should not be prioritized. This could also improve test scores in our district which would be a definite plus!

This also impacts students in Advancec Placement courses. The dates for AP exams are set by College Board and do not change regardless of weather or natural disasters (hurricanes, fires, etc.) An earlier start to the school year would benefit students by ensuring that teachers have adequate time to cover curriculum and teach necessary skills.

Finishing the second quarter and all tests and exams that are tied to the second quarter before the winter break makes so much sense. Please bring this to reality!

I teach at South Rowan High School and definitely believe ending the semester before Winter Break is a must for the students.

As a high school teacher, we NEED to go back to finishing the semester before Christmas Break.

I enjoy my summers immensely, but we need to do this for our students.

All the fuss about missing school due to winter weather would not be near as bad if exams were already done before Christmas. Not to mention there would not be a two weeks out of school and retention issues.

Students are under a lot of pressure for exams. Trying to remember everything after 10-14 days, (even more if you have snow days) is unreasonable. It seems like the higher ups are setting up our children to fail.

This year snow occurred during reviews and during exams. Moving when the exams would occur would be a smart idea to allow students to retain the information learned, as well as lessen the chance of snow occurring during review and exams.

It is the black cloud hanging over Christmas break.

The change of exams to after the holidays was a direct result of the delay of school starting from early August. That change was political and should never have been made. Change it back!

This would also help get more instructional time for AP spring semester classes and align better with the Career and College Promise coursez

It's time to make decisions on what is best for students, not special interest groups.
