The municipality finally backed down and the classes are officially back on the schedule. It has been a long and draining fight but seeing the decision reversed makes the effort worth it. We should keep an eye on things as the new term starts to ensure they follow through.

Native English Speakers English Lessons - URGENT
It has come to our attention that there is a proposal to cancel the funding for English classes for Native English Speakers in Elementary School for this upcoming school year. Following a meeting with Dorit Frenkel, we also understand that any initiative to pay privately for the English class would not be allowed and all private classes must be held outside of school hours.
To the best of our knowledge - this change has been made on a local municipality level and not at a national level - as both Hod Hasharon and Kfar Saba will continue their Native English Speakers classes for the upcoming school year.
It is our EXPECTATION that Raanana - with its significant Anglo Saxon population will take a lead in providing an educational platform suited to its populations needs and set an EXAMPLE for the rest of the country.
We ask that you take immediate action to address this critical issue now - to ensure that our children will be taught English at an appropriate level within the framework of the school day.

Reaching this level of visibility proves that parents are not willing to let these classes disappear without a fight. The fatigue is setting in but seeing this momentum reminds me why we started this in the first place. We are moving forward despite the resistance.

I have 2 children in Bilu and expect them to be taught English on a higher level. This decision is unacceptable.
Please rethink this. Our kids need the challenge or they just get bored in class.
My daughter is reaching a high level and this would really set her back. Why would Raanana stop supporting this when other cities keep it going?
This is ridiculous for Raanana. Not the best idea to cut the English programme for our kids
Ridiculous decision. We moved to this city specifically for the schools and this program. Fix it.
I am a Tali parent. This decision is unacceptble.

Mr. Bielski, think of it this way: Would you have native or mother-tongue Hebrew speakers sit in an ulpan class in order to maintain and advance their education in lashon and safrut?
