Dear President Obama:

Please consider our petition to implement National Science Day as adesignated day of recognition in the United States. The aim of such a day would be to engage and inspire people of all ages with science and technology.

While several countries, including China, Britain, Australia, Canada, and Norway have national science weeks, online research shows that India seems to be the only country with a National Science Day.

A USNational ScienceDay would provide an opportunityfor all Americans to participate in focused events and activities that showcase science and would encourage young people to consider continuing studies in science.

“Whether it’s improving our health or harnessing clean energy, protecting our security or succeeding in the global economy, our future depends on reaffirming <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />America’s role as the world’s engine of scientific discovery and technological innovation.” This quote from you appears on the Office of Science and Technology website.

We believe that a USNational Science Day would be a great educational, economic, and symbolic way to reaffirm America's commitmentas a leader in scientific discovery.
