Ireland matched only by Greece, holds the statistic of being the only country in the EU and also only country in Europe of not having a permanent ice rink of any size at all. It's a pretty shameful statistic considering places like North Korea, and small countries like Lichtenstein, Malta and Luxembourg (who have four olympic standard rinks) are able to support at least one permanent rink year round. It has been proven time and time again in Ireland that commercial and private enterprise, the only available avenue for supporting an ice rink, is unworkable. It is therefore completely neccessary that if Ireland is to have any kind permanent rink it needs to be done with either some kind of public/private scheme, municipality funded, or adequate tax exemptions/initiatives created for the purpose.

as a Canadian who have lived in ireland for the past 29 years, I have dreamed of an ice rink in Dublin. I don't know if my dream will come true before I hang up my roller skates? I am hoping the government at any level will come to realize the importance of promoting other minority sports apart from Gaelic games. if places like Hawaii and the Phillipine can keep an ice rink operational throughout the year why can't Ireland do the same? Only the government can make this happen and that's the way it should be.

Be great for the country. It might start slow but a facility like this, given the chance to develop could a really valuable asset.

Ice sport facilities are essential in developing the sporting skills of those for whome traditional sports lack appeal.

much needed in Ireland. People should be encouraged and have the opportunity to have ice skating facilities.

It is shame...that European country doesn't have permanent ice !
I think this would be great for Ireland. Figure Skater.
We need ice hockey back again permanently in Ireland together with the other ice sports. The only way to get them back is with a permanent ice rink
