Back in 2010, when the "C" building remodeling began, we voted unanimously to name the building after the late, Professor Hope Shaw. Hope Shaw was one of the founders of the Radio TV Film Department, and invested 40 years of her life to City College. Hope unexpectedly passed away in April 2005, in a drowning accident, before any of us had the chance to say goodbye. Naming the new building, “The Hope Shaw Media and Performing Arts Center ,” would keep Hope’s vision and legacy alive for those students and faculty who were not as fortunate to know her. No one deserves the honor more. Now we are being told that the San Diego Community College District is changing it's policy on the naming of new buildings, encouraging the person or family to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars. It's being suggested that we name the studio or a wing after Hope. None of the new policy language is in writing, and was never made available to this body, so we are circulating this petition in hopes that you will sign it and help us get this new building named after Hope Shaw, who so deserves it. Thank you for your support! Professor Laura Castaneda
