As the daughter of a former federal law enforcement officer, I urge that this building be renamed the Ariel Rios building. There has been so much bad press about law enforcement lately that it is easy for people to forget that without these agents the drug cartel violence would be right here in the United States. Mr. Rios gave his life to keep this country safe. He and all the other ATF officers who died in the line of duty deserve to be recognized for their sacrifices.

As a retired Senior Special Agent of the U.S. Border Patrol and the U.S. Customs Service in 1995 at FLETC Glynco, GA it is my honor to stand up for my fallen comrades in arms. If we don't no one else will. The gutless politicians surely do not deserve such recognition.
I was shot in the line of duty 28 April 1973 in Calexico, CA while in the Border Patrol and nearly died. The two illegal aliens were found guilty of assault on a federal agent, use of a firearm in comission of a felony, robbery of U.S. Government property (my weapon) and last and most was conspiracy to murder a federal agent. The first case ever tried in federal court under a new statute since the killing of President John F. Kennedy. These two aliens were given 35 years just on the conspiracy charges and many more for the other charges. These two alien men were put in seperate prisons (El Reno and Lampoc). These two aliens were released after only five years through the port of Calexico, CA never to be heard from again. I was never notified and only found out 20 years later by the BP Agent who was order to be the one to escort them to the border. Secret deals!

I was working in Miami at the task force and remember that day vividly. When the ATF building was named for Ariel I was very proud and now politics have entered the scene. Such a shame.

Reinstating the name of Ariel Rios to the New ATF Building is the only fitting and honorable thing that can be done to memorialize the ultimate sacrifice made by this extraordinary special agent.

This was an outrage, to remove an honored dedicated martyred law enforcement officers name and replace it with an unscrupulous, immoral, liar, who should have been thrown out of office. For once, noble politicians, just once, do the right thing. Honor the man, the job, and the sacrifice.
