The most used it is, the less bytes it takes (mostly, that's not a clear explicit rule). For instance:
- Basic latin characters, like "A", are encoded using 1 byte.
- Greek characters are encoded using 2 bytes.
- Thai characters are encoded using 3 bytes.
- Nüshu characters (Chinese characters used exclusively among women in Jiangyong County in Hunan province of southern China) are encoded using
4 bytes.

Following this rule, the kebab emoji should be using at maximum half a byte (4 bits)

optimization is everything. if we can shave those bits down it saves so much space in the long run for real database heavy lifting.

I agree, ANSI should even consider moving it into the next version of ASCII.
