The internal processes at DPP must be updated to better serve the public. Building delays, due to long permitting delays, has a costly rippling effect throughout our community. We encourage Mayor Blangiardi to make DPP a priority by completely reshaping and relaunching our permitting process..

Expediting the Permit and CPR Approvals CREATES JOBS!!!! For construction workers, architects, engineers, attorneys, escrow companies, realtors, home and termite inspectors, appraisers, and more!! Hawaii does not need to be in constant recession and upgrading old houses to new ones improves neighborhoods!! Win win for everyone!!

DPP cancelling active permits - without notifying applicants - is not the way to fix their backlog. To add insult to injury, when a cancelled permit is resubmitted, it sits in prescreen for 4 months. Please, do better.

Prescreen is the biggest holdup. Allowing AI and TPR to process and/or bypass prescreen would be a big help. With TPR, the onus already falls on the registered professionals, as well as the TPR (who is also a registered professional) to make sure codes are followed. Prescreen is mostly about formatting, not critical issues to life safety. Waiting over 4 months for a format check, then having to do it all over again when a non-pertinent comment is made by the clerks (who do not have adequate training) is completely unreasonable. I have one client who has been in prescreen twice for over 70 days each.

I route permits for contractors and homeowners. The longest permit i had to deal with was put in to dpp in 2017 and didnt get permitted till 2020. That is just too long. Before the indictments of dpp workers the fastest permit was 3 months. Now it takes 3 months for dpp to even look at it..Once they look at it its another 6 months or more depending on how many departments it needs to go thru. We need a change. permitfacilitators808.com
