My Building Permit Is Taking Too Long! Please Help!

I submitted 12/10/21. It’s now 8/24/22 and I haven’t even made it past the intake clerk yet! Absurd!

I don't understand why DPP need double security. Please hire someone more helpful in the front instead other security. Every time you come down., There is customer service, hire more staffs.

DPP so slow so bad, Efficiency needs to be improved, otherwise the economy is a circular body, if such a big link is not turned, there will be a lot of bad chain reaction

Permit's submitted to our State Planning Department need to have a maximum of 30 days for processing. This is because if this is not followed, every plan that is submitted will cause a price increase on materials, gas, and multiple other things.... even some one not having a kitchen to cook in for 4 months because of an electrical permit. Every single person waiting on a permit counts and is affected by this much needed Structure called S.O.P. (Standard Operating Procedure), even our Ohana Family on Oahu. DPP is abusing their power in the name of protection public safety. Building plans are designed and stamped by licensed architects and egnineers, constructed by the licensed contractors and inspected by the city inspectors. Why the review process can take so long and most of the time several rounds of reviews?

Building department needs to keep up with our growing population, that means hiring more staff. Under staffing shouldn't be an excused for long permit processing. It'll only get worse if things don't change. It wasn't long ago when getting a permit for a new home only takes 4 months. Please fix these issues.

I have ten building permit in processing, is been than half year already still waiting for the first pre screen.

DPP back log is harming the economy of this island. Homeowners, business owners, design professional, are all suffering.

The current building permit situation is untenable. We sympathize with the challenges the current DPP staff faces and encourage greater funding, resources, and attention be devoted to the Building Department by the Mayor and the City.

This has been a nightmare. I am 76 years old and on immunotherapy for cancer. My husband is 80 with Parkinson’s Disease. We would love to have the house built in time to build memories and to know my daughter has a place to come home after she retires.

1 year is way too long to wait. Let's get this sorted as soon as possible.

We are a general contractor trying to build an addition with ADA compliant facilities for an elderly couple. We have been waiting 9 months now .. still no permit.

Budget higher salaries at DPP, turnover is reduced, efficiency improves.
