This year, three of our Carlsbad elementary schools (Hope, Aviara Oaks & Pacific Rim) started the year without music teachers. Teachers at these schools were offered positions for more pay & benefits in other local districts. They just couldn't pass up the opportunity for benefits. Currently, our music programs are being funded through the generosity of the Carlsbad Educational Foundation. This amazing organization has really been instrumental in keeping music in our classrooms. Unfortunately, they can't do it alone.

The Carlsbad Unified School District is not augmenting the funds that CEF pays out to our music teachers and they have no plans to do so in the future. While a few schools have tried to hire music teachers on their own (with funding supplemented by parents), they simply can't offer a competitive enough package to lock in quality candidates.

We are requesting that the Carlsbad Unified School District (District) participate in funding our music program by augmenting the funds provided by CEF and parents in the form of a benefit package. We need the District to participate in making our Distinguished School great! We are requesting that the District make up the difference in funding needed to secure a music teacher…Music Matters!

Please sign the petition requesting funding support from the District in the form of health/retirement benefits to augment the funding that is already in place! Please encourage the District to do their part to support our kids.

Sincerely,

Parents of Carlsbad Students

The Carlsbad Unified School District continues to ignore our demands while they sit on their hands and watch our music programs crumble. I have been relentless in tracking down board members for answers because they refuse to acknowledge that their failure to provide benefits is driving our best teachers away.

The Carlsbad Unified School District can no longer pretend this is just a minor complaint from a few parents. We have reached a point where our momentum is impossible for them to ignore because the community is demanding that they stop neglecting our students.

The District is still ignoring our demands while our kids lose out on music education. We are nearly at one hundred signatures so push this link out to everyone you know right now.

Carlsbad Parents even if your kids are out of elementary school PAY IT FORWARD! Please don't give up the fight if you want quality K-5 music educators. We so appreciate everyone's support for excellent music teachers through fair wages and benefits like every other CUSD credentialed teacher.

My children attend AOE and have mentioned several times throughout the school year how much they miss music at school and wish they had that as one of their "specials". We need to bring music back to AOE permanently!!

STEAM, our kids need musical influence. CUSD please support our school by offering benefits. We are loosing our specialty teachers left and right due to lack of benefits.

It is so sad that we as parents are donating money to try and hire a music teacher and the district is not supplementing our efforts. Music is so beneficial to the education of our students.

My son attends AOE and they still do not have a music teacher for this year. I agree that pay and benefits need to be better so that they will stay at the schools. I hope this petition helps.

Mrs. Evans is such a wonderful music teacher and her background is amazing! The school district needs to recognize these great teachers and pay them properly!

Research has shown that the study of music enhances brain power!
