High school athletics already miss 1-2 class periods for sports, 1-3 times per week during season. More instruction will be missed with the proposal. College and cartreadiness, students will have college classes at 8 am or they will have a job where they have to report at 8 am. High school students need to learn to get up and be somewhere on time. If they don’t get enough sleep parents need to be parents and intervene. High schools used to start at 7:45 and got out at 2:45…what about that option?

It will be better on the family’s that have smaller children if the older children got home 1st. With high school getting out late it could hurt the ones who are trying to do school and work. They’ll end up having to work later meaning getting home later.

High school should be the earliest. They need to be preparing for the real world. Which means getting up early to be at work. Those 1st time jobs are not on banker hours.

As a mother to 3 who will have a child in elementary, middle and high school, I'm against this new bell schedule. Leave it as it is. 8 is early enough for little ones who also need their sleep for a productive day. This seems to only be in favor of HS students.

I worked as a bus driver for MCSD and saw so many other issues that (to me,) were much more important for the improvement of education for students from prek to high school.

This may only help bussing, but its affects those high schoolers who work, those into sports, they already miss instruction for away games, and there have already been statements made by these same high schoolers that they still stay up later gaming.

I am a District 8 parent and the proposal I watched on youtube looked good. But when I went to a community meeting I realized the need for more information to prove why this is a good idea. Most people I have heard talking about it feel the same way but are afraid to speak up because they don't want their child targeted. My child is not in school yet but he will be next year and I do not want him having to start school at 7:45 am when he has already gotten used to the 8 am time through daycare

In my opinion, this is not going to help us get the students to school on time. We still have to deal with traffic and those who drive for elementary schools will have to start their day earlier. Some of them are already working other jobs to make ends meet. This is likely going to cause you to lose more drivers.
