Jim Henson was a pioneer of TV puppetry. This petition is to bring a Muppet Cinema class to CalArts. Muppet Cinema will focus on the storytelling and technical artistry of Jim Henson's films and the impact it has had on puppetry as a whole. Jim Henson’s work is comedic, political, and magical. His body of work continues to enchant audiences to this day. In Muppet Cinema, students will explore the ways Jim Henson re-imagined filmmaking techniques with the Muppets in mind and, in the process, changed how the world looks at puppetry. Other films involving puppetry will be discussed and touched upon.

I was just watching The Great Muppet Caper for the tenth time and it really hit me how much technical genius is packed into every single frame of that movie. People keep messaging me with their own favorite scenes and it honestly makes me think an actual class where we break down these shots could be such a huge deal for the animation department. I am still trying to figure out the right person to email in the administration who might actually listen to us but for now I just keep thinking about how much there is to learn.

This is a dream class to me. The muppets have always been something that I love
Would definitely take this class! I took Aliens on Screen last semester where we solely watched and analyzed alien movies and I would most definitely do so with the muppets!!
It’s time to play the music. It’s time to light the lights. It’s time to meet the Muppets in an accredited college course tonight.

PLEASE make this happen. I grew up on Labyrinth and Dark Crystal and I need to study this stuff for my major. Do it for Jim!!!
