Jim Henson was a pioneer of TV puppetry. This petition is to bring a Muppet Cinema class to CalArts. Muppet Cinema will focus on the storytelling and technical artistry of Jim Henson's films and the impact it has had on puppetry as a whole. Jim Henson’s work is comedic, political, and magical. His body of work continues to enchant audiences to this day. In Muppet Cinema, students will explore the ways Jim Henson re-imagined filmmaking techniques with the Muppets in mind and, in the process, changed how the world looks at puppetry. Other films involving puppetry will be discussed and touched upon.
