MRC Student Coalition Demands

The actions and reactions of Matteo Ricci College are unacceptable. Epistimicide should not be tolerated or perpetuated by any university.

I am from the Midwest, and have heard so much about Washington's "efforts" to becoming an inclusive, multi-culturally competent state. I see, now that I am living here, that there is much rhetoric without aligning action. I must say, let's see the college move forward. Away with Kelly! I fully support these young adults seeking social justice.

I am not a student, but as a community member with many friends who have graduated from SU, I want it to be very clear that these protestors have my full support!

I applaud these students for their efforts to take control of their education. For too many decades, the educational system has been used to dis-empower youth and faculty. This must change in the service of social justice.

Resist white supremacy. By keeping Dean Kelly as a part of the University, you are upholding white supremacy.

Congratulations on taking action. I totally support what you students are working to accomplish. Keep the Faith!

Same problems over at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology. Students of color were being bullied out by white peers, faculty, curriculum and generally hostile atmosphere. Not ok.

SU needs to bring greater perspectives to Humanities, world culture should not continue to be paved over by European -centric narratives.

As an alumni of UW's Comparative History of Ideas program, I want to show my support and solidarity with SU MRC Student Coalition.

Both my workplace and myself support the MRC student coalition.

White people, it's about time we start listening to our brothers and sisters of color when they tell us what we're doing is hurting them.

As a University of Washington student, I stand in solidarity with the MRC Student Coalition. As an anti-racist organizer at UW, I recognize that across schools we are all working to undo institutional racism and white supremacy, though we have our unique struggles as well. Thank you for all your hard work and heart.

I'm signing this because I'm a graduate of SU, and this is not acceptable. The MIT program was well with its social justice class, and other schools should follow the steps of the MIT program, which believes in being social justice advocates.

I would like to commend the student coalition and proudly add my voice to theirs. This petition represents and opportunity to vastly improve the education of all of the students at the college, and to set an example for other institutions. The impact that this could have on our nation is tremendous, and I would love to be a part of that process.

I graduated in 2006. 10 years later, things are still the same. I cannot send my own child to this university without the change! I count on Seattle University to educate tell youth to become educated citizens. Please make the change now!

These demands present an incredible opportunity for MRC. As an alumni of the Humanities for Leadership program, I am fully supportive of every demand herein. I feel uneasy about my degree, despite all the wonderful professors and challenging work. I'm left prepared to continue the status quo. The only engaging conversations I had about race happened outside of MRC classes. My generation is tasked with re-addressing systemic racism in the US and I am unprepared to do so. Please give these demands utmost consideration. The MRC coalition is filled with wisdom and insight that Deans, Provosts, Presidents, Faculty and Staff unlike do not possess. They speak from their experience of pain.
