This student group is in fact racist itself. They are attacking any SU administrators who are "guilty" of being white. They also meet regularly with Sawant to further her socialist agenda of unionizing the SU faculty. These students are acting like terrorists and are trying to secularize and bring down the entire SU university. Wake up people.

As a former student of Seattle University, it sickens me to see that the virus that is the modern social justice outrage movement has reached what I thought to be a bastion of fairness and equality in higher education. Formulating a word salad from vacuous ingredients with no supporting examples, evidence, or justification and then making demands that have a distinct undertone of racism against white faculty seems to be the order of the day and I hope that everyone can see this petition for what it is....a bunch of (privileged) children who see the success others have had with making themselves known and have tried to capitalize on that market by making similarly ridiculously demands at Seattle University.
I certainly hope that the University sees fit to keep Dean Kelly employed in her current role following the investigation and that these students are encouraged to leave the university with the support of administrative staff in getting their accumulated credits transferred to other institutions.

As an alumni of the MRC program I support this petition to change it and if not disband it and if neither work I recommend students go to another university.

I respect the what these students are trying to accomplish, but this petition is ridiculous. About a quarter of the demands are pretty straight forward demands that can probably be implemented fairly easily, and I strongly support. The idea of students having more control over their education is one which I strongly support, to a certain extent. I also support the idea of a holistic curriculum that teaches many different aspects of history instead of a western centric one. Unfortunately, the more I read this petition, the clearer it became that these demands had not been thoroughly considered before they wrote this petition.
First off, half of their demands are as ambiguous and confusing as the school curriculum they are trying to dismantle. How exactly are the signers of this petition going to know if the college "actively recruits and supports a diverse student population" while not "using bodies of students of color to advertise diversity"? Much like many of their bullet points, they are vague and lack an objective state of completion, which from the point of view of the president, would make negotiating with the students very difficult.
Regarding staffing, they don't really seem to know what they want. On the one hand, they want a diverse faculty to teach them about a more diverse set of topics, that I can understand. However they also want the staff to have job security and be unionized, which would make it significantly more difficult to fire faculty members such as the Dean that they are trying to have fired right now. I understand their intent behind unionization is to protect academic freedom by the teachers, but it goes two ways. If a teacher has a curriculum of books all written by white men because in their professional opinion the content is better or clearer or more comprehensive than a book written by a person of color, should that teacher be forced to change their curriculum? How about if a teacher doesn't find any value in teaching the subje
