There is nothing "fun" about an event that marginalizes trans students to avoid "tension". The faculty members of Klein Oak High School are there to foster a safe and inclusive learning environment for students, and the Mr. Debonair pageant is no exception. Signing this petition is your chance to tell Klein Oak that you will not stand for their erasure of trans students like Lincoln, just because it inconveniences them to protect and include their students.

News about this petition reached me all the way in Austin, and I am shocked. Banning this student from the pageant shows a lack of understanding and diversity training on the administration's part. This is an opportunity for the entire community to learn about acceptance! Most importantly, though, this makes the dreams of a young trans student *secondary* to the dreams of cisgender students. It may seem little here, but small instances like this lead to trans* erasure and dehumanization. I hope the Klein ISD administrators will step up and take a role in making their campuses inclusive, safe spaces for ALL students, no matter their race, class, sexuality, or gender. Come on, Klein Oak! Get it together!
